    Couple of things regarding IBS:

    1. One current theory is that hairballs are actually a form of IBS. If your cat has uncontrollable hairballs, find out if the vet is willing to do a test round of prednizone to test the theory.

    2. Prednizone is cheap, and is a simple treatment. It won't work for cats that gorge themselves and therefore hork, but for cats with unexplained frequent vomiting and...ahem....litter box issues... it's a great solution.

Now I just need the extra cash so I can get my girlie back for a new script. It's amazing how well it works for her.

Three years ago my cat Gary started vomiting right after he ate and sometimes he'd vomit in his dish before even finishing his food. I took him to the vet and he was given a clean bill of health. About a week later he was still vomiting almost every time he ate, he was lethargic and I could see that he had lost some weight. So I took him back to the vet.

X-rays showed a huge blockage in his intestines that consisted of fur and old, dried up stool. He was unable to poop so everything he ate came right back up again. By this time he was in grave danger of dying and I was pretty upset with the vet for not helping him the first time I brought him in. They gave him an enema and sub Q fluids and he was hospitalized for nearly 5 days...costing over $600.00 which I didn't have. (Had to borrow it)

To this day he has to have a special diet to help prevent hairballs and I give him Laxatone on a regular basis. Flea treatments also help to keep him from constantly licking himself because of fleas. He never vomits during the winter months but when he's shedding during the summer he vomits often. I always panic and rush him to the vet.
