  • Labyrinth (1986 Movie)

Anyone else love this movie? I do, It's one of those movies that can never get old for me. I love the character of Jareth especially as, there's a lot more to him than just being the cruel bad guy. The lyrics of Within you pretty much show there's more depth to him than appears.

How you turned my world, you precious thing
You starve and near exhaust me
Everything I've done, I've done for you
I move the stars for no one
    ~~
    Live without the sunlight
    Love without your heartbeat
    I, I can't live within you.

Also the end of the film where Sarah is confronting him also shows more than the surface.

I have heard that there are fanfics where Sarah and Jareth form a relationship, a sexual one at that, the idea of those annoy me because that's so not either of the characters, so I guess I won't be reading them

I only ever got to see that movie once, but I loved it.

I was given the movie for Christmas one year. We watched it on Boxing Day, and then and it disappeared.

I think someone borrowed it, but I can't remember who it was.

I was disappointed, because I have often wanted to watch it again.

I think it was loaned to a friend or relative and was never returned, but I could never remember who it was, so I never asked, and anyone I did ask claimed not to have it.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

My love for Labyrinth is kind of backwards. I don't remember ever actually watching the film when I was a kid. During my first year of University my friends rented it and all fell in love. Sadly, I wasn't there at the time. All I could do was stare at David Bowie in their poster and slowly get drawn in by that and their tales of this epic film.

....And "Dance Magic Dance" we watched that well over a hundred times that year.

Last year a friend of mine introduced me to fanfiction about Labyrinth, fanart, the new original manga, everything. Please not that i had still NOT watched the film.

I was at the beginning of November this year that I spotted a copy of the DVD at Wally World. I had enough money and the DVD was on sale for quite low, so I bought it and watched it a few days later.

As I watched it, I knew that my obsession was well placed. I was quite pleased.

Though to this day, it's the one and only time I've ever watched the film. Though I happily claimed it a favorite long before that.

I can't watch Magic Dance, namely since in that primarily and most of the movie, Bowie is Cap'n Codpiece

Labyrinth is a great film for older children and adults (plus mature women seeing David Bowie in his tights). Besides the Muppets and Sesame Street, Jim Henson came out with a lot of superb work during that time also, The Dark Crystal and Fraggle Rock just to name a few. The late 70s and into the early / mid 1980s was the height of his career.

Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal had some excellent puppetry as well as acting and a great storyline. (BTW - IMO puppets and models are FAR better than CGI any day). Plus, any Trekker knows that one of the favorite senior cast members (Dr Crusher - Gates McFadden) is also an established choreographer and puppet master and did a lot of work with these two films, also.

"David Bowie, we'd like you to do a kids' movie."

            "Uh, what? No."

"But you get to wear THESE PANTS."

            "Oh, hell yes!"

That's a great movie. I have it on DVD for Khan when he's a little bigger.

We have The Dark Crystal, but that's for Husband to watch with him- I saw it when I was 5 years old and was so freaked out I couldn't watch it again for 20 years. I saw it about 5 years ago and it still freaked me the hell out.

One of my all time favorite movies! I have loved that story for years. It ranks up there with Legend and Dark Crystal as the best fantasy movies ever for me. And now that you've got the song stuck in my head, I'm going to have to pull out the soundtrack and listen to that while I bake my holiday cookies

Thanks for that, now I won't be able to watch it either.

I love Labyrinth...when I was a pup I wanted to design a house like the castle stair maze. Ludo is awesome (and William the Worm is just adorable)

                  I love that movie!

You remind me of the babe!

                  What babe?

                  The babe with the power.

                  What power?

                  The power of Voodoo.

                  Who do?

                  You do!

When that movie came out the guy I was dating was utterly obsessed with it. I'll bet we watched it a hundred times (literally). And, he went as the Goblin King for Halloween- tights and all.

                  Ah, good times.

                          I love science fiction movies.

                          I love fantasy movies.

My best friend is actually a cousin of Jim Henson's.

And yet I have never seen Labyrinth.

Yes, I know. I'm weird. Tell me something I don't know.

and for those who don't mind illustrated versions of it, there is a manga out called Jim Henson's Return to the Labyrinth

I saw it as a kid, only once, and I'm sure I loved it, but don't remember it now. Also saw The Dark Crystal in the theater. Now I need to find Labyrinth and watch again.
