• >< First day of School.

...I would like to take a moment to point out that a morning person, I am not.
So what in the HELL I was thinking when I registered for an 8:30 class... I cannot possibly fathom.

Ah well... time to go get ready and quit being a lazy slob. First time back to the college in about a year... I'm kinda nervous.

We shall see if my financial aid goes though... if not that it may be another 3 months before I can contemplate school again.

    toodles!

    ....P.S. >< GOD I"M TIRED!

I'm not a morning person either. While it kinda sucked having a lot of classes really late at night, I had five B's, an A, and only one C. Guess it shows.

          FRICK! ><

The financial aid office seems bent on Screwing me! I got my paperwork in on time... and yet they didn't even FILE it until the 16th. This now means I probably won't even be CONSIDERED for financial aid until March. I can't afford books with out aid... and I definitely cant afford 1,000 + of classes with out aid. And until all my fees are paid I can't get a current ID card... .which means I can't even check out my course books from the library... yeah I am upset.

....I'm so flustered I just want to cry. It's looking like I am going to have to drop all my classes and find a part time job for 3 months...

          ..... .god this sucks.

Calm down! Don't forget, Financial Aid is bent on screwing everybody! (And I do mean that in the most reassuring way possible).

I've had financial aid go through maybe a MONTH after classes started and I was still able to go. I had to pay for my own books but once Financial aid went through I was reimbursed completely. If you can make it until then you're golden.

I understand what you're going through. School starts today for me too. DSHS is footing the bill for this quarter.

But next quarter I have to pay for on my own. But I don't qualify til I pass the current classes. But I have to apply for financial aid before this quarter is done. So how will they know I qualify.

              Very frustrating.

I've been in college a long time myself, and let me tell you, Chazzie has it correct: Financial aid will ALWAYS screw people over, given the chance. Hell, I'm still getting screwed over, and I turn in my financial aid stuff super early.

That said, generally speaking, in my personal experience, most colleges won't drop you from your classes if you have financial aid pending. Also, check with your FA office. A lot of schools offer book loans of a sort, which means you'll get a temporary loan on your student accound to pay for your books. When your financial aid hits your account, the loan is deducted from the aid and you receive the rest as a refund, if applicable.

Don't panic until you talk to someone in the office, is my advice. And good luck with school!

I'm off to fight with my own financial aid office in a bit, so wish me luck.

Thanks guys. I know I was freaking out a bit.... truthfully I still am. But I talked to my professors and I am heading to the counseling office to try and figure this out. If all goes well maybe I'll only have to drop one class. Anyway.
Thanks for cheering me up! I feel better now.

Off to brave the mess that is school.

^_^ thanks Chazzie. This will be my year #3 for school... It's just the first time I'm really having to deal with this financial aid B.S. So the counselor got my payment deferred until such a time when they actually REVIEW my file. So I have a green light now to buy books and parking passes and such.

                      Which makes me HAPPY!

My first semester of college, I had an 8am class on Tuesday and Thursday, which ended at 9:15; my next class wasn't until 11, so I would roll out of bed, throw on jeans and a sweatshirt, go to the first class, then go back to my dorm and take a shower (and throw on jeans and a sweatshirt ).

For those that are looking for part time work and financial aid to help I recommend looking into Americorps. When I did it nearly 10 years ago we got paid $800 before taxes (barely livable but you qualify for food stamps etc) There are also many apartments that have a deal set with the program. Some people on my team had rent for just $50 a month. It's usually an 11 month program with 1100 hours to be completed and then you get an Education award of $4500. There are a few different types; tutoring in school, inner city cleanup/afterschool program, first aid response and cleanup for natural disasters. That way you already have the money before school starts and only get screwed over a tiny bit with the FA office being slow =-).
