Waiting for a phone call

I'm waiting for a phone call to see whether I need an operation on my broken wrist. I went to have it checked yesterday, and had an x-ray. It isn't quite healing in a perfect position, so it may give me some pain. The consultant is going to look at the x-rays and decided today, then phone me.

The waiting and not knowing has me worried.

I know how you feel. I broke my ankle back in May. The pain was horrible. Thankfully I didn't need surgery.

Hopefully you won't need surgery. If you do make sure they give you a lot of "I don't care drugs".

Slipped on icy pavement.

It is 2pm and still haven't had phone call. I'm getting stressed waiting.

Just try to relax. It's not going to do you any good to get yourself all stressed out.

Didn't get a phome call from them. Did visit my doctor to get a sick note, he said the hospital had had over 70 fractures in 2 days, so they are very busy. Am a little less stressed at the minute.

why would you have to wait for a phonecall? don't the specialists tell you when they examine you in the visit?

Having broken my wrists (and assorted other bones) a number of times (brittle bones), I've come to dislike going for x-rays.

They take them, send them to be read, then the results are transcribed and sent on to the Dr. The whole process takes forever!

I now make an appointment with my Dr for directly after the x-ray and just have a copy burned to CD and give it to my Dr for him to read himself. He's a specialist. He (hopefully) knows what he's looking at!

Most times the people who read the x-rays aren't in direct contact with the Drs and it can take a few days if the Dr and readers isn't in the same hospital.

Hope you feel better. And if it does make you feel better, wrist surgery isn't all that bad. I was up and out the same day (surgery was at 7:00am) and back at work in less than a week.

Made it hard to type, but the casts they use are pretty flexible and the pain minimal. Tylenol 4's are your friends .

However, I'm really hoping you didn't break your scaffoid (sp?). Now that's a tricky one for sure!

My husband's step-father fell on his wrist right before Christmas. When they examined him, they couldn't tell if it was broken, even after doing x-rays, because the swelling was so bad. He had to go back a week or so later to get it x-rayed again.

Broken wrists are no fun. Though when I fractured mine I also dislocated it and the doctors and to push it back in place. It was EXTREMELY painful. I'll never look at swings the same way again.....

Rang earlier, left a voice mail. The doctor's secretary rang back and tried to find out more info but couldn't. She is going to find someone who can tell me more to ring me back. So back to waiting for a call.

Well if they haven't got back to you, maybe it's possible that you won't have surgery. No news is good news I always say.

Good luck CG. Will you have to stay in the hospital or will it be an outpatient thing. Make sure they give you lots of (but not too much) "I don't care drugs"
