  • Feeling Sorry For Myself

Just had my wisdon teeth removed and feel rather sick and rough now.

Anyone have any experience to share of how I should be feeling/how long I will feel rough for?

    **HUGS** *HUGS* and ice cream

I shall join you in the less-toothy group...I just had one yanked as well.

How are you feeling?? Rest up, follow all the doc' order, and watch really bad TV.

Did you have all 4 yanked? You'll be sore for a while, but nothing terrible. If you got meds, take 'em. Avoid rice. Trust me on the rice. Ouch.

Best advice I can give...just take care of yourself....let yourself feel miserable for a bit, it can be therapeutic

(did you see yr teeth afterward? Crazy-lookin things. )

Yes I had four out yesterday in the hospital but when I got home last night I just threw up for ages.Today I can't open my mouth and my tongue and throat hurt a lot.Painkillers are only just taking the edge of it.

I feel very dizzy and have only just got up been in bed all day.

Trying to sip water but even that hurts.

Sorry to whinge so much.I expected some discomfort but this is horrible.

ICE PACKS. Two - one on each cheek. After my surgery, I was put on a pain pill/Ibuprofen/Tylenol regimen, but take whatever your doc gave you.

Soft, mushy food. Mac n cheese (with overcooked pasta), baked potatoes, etc. I went through quite a few Little Debbie Fudge Rounds and Oatmeal Cream Pies. Sprite (dark colas made my sister upchuck after her wisdom tooth extraction). Nothing with a straw. I'm sure they told you to swish salt water around your mouth? Just be careful not to swish too hard, you have to just kinda tilt your head around.

It took me nearly a week to have full 'mouth mobility,' but the serious pain only lasted 24 hrs. or so. If you keep it iced, you shouldn't have too much swelling. After that, it's just soreness/tenderness/can't open your freakin' mouth all the way.

ETA: If you're having that much nausea, I would call the office and see what they suggest. If you've been vomiting that much, you may be at risk for dry sockets.

Yeah, I'd give the doc a call, if only to hear good advice. I wasn't that bad after the wisdom teeth

Go with the ice packs, or a hot water bottle (my care sheet suggest that)

Icing your cheeks help with inflammation. If they gave you a prescription for vicodin or some other pain killer, use it. I normally hate pain killers, but vicodin worked wonders for me after having wisdom teeth pulled.

I would tell you my experience from November, but it might freak you out too much. My mouth is just now functioning normally.

Oh, warm/hot salt water. Every so often, put some in your mouth, move it around but don't gargle. Let it fall out, don't spit.

Ice, ice and more ice. If you can, sleep sitting up as it helps reduce swelling. I had all 4 widsoms removed in one go - I kept my ice pack going for 3 days, and slept sitting up. Minimal swelling, no bruising.

Eat very bland, watery food (yoghurt, icecream etc). For the salt water rinse, just kind of gently move your head from side to side. Remember to take in plenty of fluids. If you can, try taking in a protein shake or a meal replacement shake every now and then.

*Hugs* I know how you feel I had my wisdoms taken out when I was 17. I wish I would have been put to sleep, but I digress.

Anyway what everyone has said here is right. Also rest and try to stay quiet as possible. This will pass.

I didn't have any trouble at all from having mine out. A bit woozy the rest of the day, and my gums bled a little, but no real pain.

About all I remember from getting my wisdom teeth out, was that I ended up singing in a high school choir concert that same night. My mom and dentist had scheduled the extraction without consulting me. (Parents were not involved in my HS activities.) I told the choir director that I would not be able to sing, and he said, under his breath, but loud enough for me to hear, "There goes the alto section." I felt so guilty that I showed up anyway. And sang. Lips crusted in blood. Stoned on the pain meds. But I sang!
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

Horrible, horrible, horrible pain. It happens when the blood clot that has formed there dislodges for whatever reason and the nerve endings are exposed.

Not just the pain youve been dealin with, which is still significant, but should be lessening a few days after the removal. This is different and worse feeling.

You may get headaches, and start some otherwise sinus-y stuff, but its mostly the pain. I had to go back to the doc and they would stuff my face with gauze covered in Eugenol oil (the stuff that tastes like cloves). The unfortunate part of this was the vicodin they gave me made me sick as a dog..so I took some ibuprofen, but there wasnt enough in the world to touch that pain.
