My hair is falling out. It's not too noticable, nor are there any bald spots, but my vanity's dignity is crushed every morning after I step out of the tub. I shampoo and condition every day (which probably isn't necessary), comb while my hair is still damp, blot my hair dry, never blow-dry or straighten it, the last time I had it colored was 2 months ago before this all started, and I rarely style my hair with gel or spray. I suspect my medications have something to do with this. I'm going to ask my doctors when I go in for my scope Thursday. (Assuming I'm able to keep myself semi-conscience long enough after I get out of anesthesia.) I also suspect I'm not getting enough vitamins because of my very strict diet. Maybe this is also why my hair is falling out? I'll ask if I can take multi-vitamin tablets. Can anyone give me anymore advice on how to keep what hair I have left?! I just started a new semester Wednesday and I don't want to have to experience it while bald!

This could be anything: Stress, Meds, shampoo/conditioner changes, hormones.
Id recommend a vitamin called Biotin, its sold in grocery stores/pharmacies and is specifically for hair and nail health. Also, get some GOOD quality shampoo and conditioner, one that strengthens. Also is it possible to not wash your hair every day?
I hope it clears up!

Don't change vitamin amount without doctor approval as some of them may be the problem in large doses (vit. A for example). If it's the medicines you're taking it may be temporary or you may want your doctor to prescribe something. How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

I second not washing your hair every day. Shampoo can dry out your scalp, and even though the conditioner helps, it can still damage your scalp. Instead, try only washing it 2-3 times a week and condition it in-between, every day if you want to since that's what you're used to. The conditioner shouldn't damage your scalp as much and it will help keep your hair looking shiny in between washes.

I third this My (almost)waist length hair gets washed once a week-otherwise the protective oils your scalp produces get washed off exposing the hair shaft to damage(causing your scalp to overproduce oil), so you replace the natural oil you just removed with inferior chemical mixes that don't work as well(conditioner)-actually overwashing is what causes split ends. My last hair trim was over 2 years ago, and I have minimal split ends(just the very tips of a few hairs)Quoth MaggieTheCat View PostI second not washing your hair every day.Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Well, apparently it is a medication that is causing my hair loss. My immune suppressants are the main suspects. They said that hair loss is usually expected between 6-12 months of taking the medicine daily. Ugh. The told me I could take a multivitamen if I wanted to, but it has to be chewable because those absorb better than tablets. So maybe that will help. Oh, and they told me I can start experimenting with foods now to see what works and what will cause me to run straight for the bathroom. Only foods I must avoid are broccoli, brussel sprouts, beans, and corn. Sugar is ok, but don't eat too much. Same deal with fat. All veggies must be cooked, so no salads either. Oh, and stay away from cabbage. Why yes, I do agree that whoever named a laxative GoLytely needs to be dragged out and shot, so anyway, your colonoscopy looks good, you're still going to be affected by the anesthesia so take it easy and don't make any important decisions for at least 24 hours. Now sign here saying that you understand everything. Hmm... Now that you mentioned it, signing a document does count as making an important decision, doesn't it? Who the hell made these regulations? Oh, and by the way, the doctors liked your "Nice View" undies you wore today. Kind of appropriate considering the cirmcumstances... Well take care. Oh! Are you all right? You must have really been dizzy to not have seen that wall. Here, eat some cheerios for a few minutes..."But I don't want to be among mad people."
You can't help that. We're all mad here. Every fucking one of us.

As far as multivitamins are concerned, if you can spend a bit, I recommend a brand called Usana. It's only available for online order, but it is a pharmaceutical grade product. Meaning what they say is in there is actually in there as checked by the FDA. Not chewable either, but much more absorbable (is that a word? lol) than what you'd pick up at Walgreen's. They are pricy, but I never felt better than the brief time I could afford them and I was taking them.I am no longer of capable of the emotion you humans call “compassion”. Though I can feign it in exchange for an hourly wage. (Gravekeeper)
