  • Guess who just spent two days in the hospital?

    Yeah, me.

And I'm that thing every doctor wants to see and no patient wants to be: an "interesting case."

Apparently, the skin of my face has become infected. Badly. As in, bright tomato red, lumpy, hot and swollen. Fortunately, the antibiotics are working; the lumpy, swollen and hot are gone, and the red is receding. Unfortunately, they still haven't identified the pathogen.

But at least I'm home now.

    Oh, hugs.

Just a spot on the face or all over? And don't forget - eat yogurt while you take any antibiotics. It helps the good bacteria stay alive in your digestive system.

When they give you a script, ask for Amox-Clav, it's great stuff (but big pills).

That's what they gave me last month after Kiri bit me and I spent 3 days in the hospital (because it got infected).

I've just been researching the antibiotics they gave me. It appears that they're treating me for a MRSA (multiply-resistant staphlococcus aurreas). I now understand why everybody was so just-this-side-of-panicky around me.

Well, it's either that or leprosy. Both of the antibiotics are used for that, as well.

I lead the damnedest life, I swear.

hand wash! Doorknob wash! faucet wash! Light fixture switch wipes!

Different towel set every day and wash those in hot water, when you do the laundry. This stuff is ....happy to travel, and likes to get around. Kind of like pinkeye does ,but MRSA can be so much more harmful.

Much better today. Tired, but the nasty has gone away.

Forgot to say, the whole first night I was in (Wednesday) they were pumping intravenous antibiotics into me. Three QUARTS worth. In addition to four quarts of 'normal saline.' Bad night, that.

No, they didn't give me any instructions like that, Cute. Hopefully, they caught it in plenty of time.

I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor next week. I'll let you know what she says.

                  Thanks for caring, guys.

Im hoping that if they suspected you had MRSA, they would have told you! Were people coming in in gowns and gloves @ all times? They usually isolate patients with MRSA infections just b/c theyre so hard to treat and can be deadly 2 times. I hope you feel better and Im glad the nasty has gone away.

From what you described i would have said it was Cellulitis, usually caused by Staph aureus. Though MRSA IS staph, just a special kind, that sucks to treat.

Normal hygiene will be okay, if youve been on the antibiotics over 24 hrs, you shouldnt have to worry too much about different sheets and towels etc. The IV stuff they give in the hospital is very strong.

                    Take care!

No, no gowned-and-masked figures, so it probably was just 'normal' staph. I'm still very tired still, but much much better than I was.

Yeah, I think I did hear something that sounded like cellulitis. You're probably right, Amina.
