It's been confirmed that Axel has parvo.

    Fuck, fuck, fuck,fuck, FUCK.

I'm not letting her get as bad as Alex, if in 2 days it looking not good, we'll let her go.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys

Poor dogs. Clean the house well, like you're prepping for surgery, after this is over. Parvo can survive in the environment and bleach is recommended to kill it.

When you feel up to dealing with fallout:

Where did you get the pups? If it was a pet shop, tell them that they sold you dogs with parvo. If they ignore you, talk to local humane societies and ask them what should be done. Write a letter to the newspaper if you have to. This is not for the purpose of being litiginous or getting money, it's to stop the spread of the disease. If the shop doesn't deal with the problem, more dogs will die as more are brought into that shop and taken home by people (maybe even to infect other dogs).

In general pet shops are bad about sanitation and vet-checking animals that come in. I'd recommend adopting from reputable shelters and rescues, because they do have the animals' best interests in mind and aren't cutting corners to make a profit.

Our shelter in Mom's county once had to destroy every animal in it because of a parvo outbreak. The entire place was sanitized and then shut down for three months with regular cleaning to fully destroy the bug. While in regular homes the bug can last up to six months a good clean down is a good idea.

And yes please if it was a pet shop tell them so that they can do a massive check and santizing clean down if needed. Parvo has no cure and sometimes is a very fast and painful killer.

Parvo gets a lot worse before it gets better. Keep forcing fluids and electrolytes. And I mean force. If she's not eating/drinking, make her. One key to surviving Parvo is to keep the dog well hydrated and nutrated (not a word, but you know what I mean). The other is not giving up even when she looks really, really bad.

Keep her cleaned up as best you can, which might mean several baths a day. And then bleach everything. Maybe even twice for good measure. Your dog can survive this, but it's not going to be fun.

True story: we got our beagle, Ziggy from some friends. A few weeks before we took her, the whole litter got Parvo. The daddy dog got it and spread it to the other dogs. Our friends forced fluids and electrolytes and out of nine dogs only lost two to the virus (one pup and the daddy dog). All the other dogs came through and are now healthy and happy. And without much intervention from a vet. You CAN do this and Axel CAN come through the other side of this. Don't give up.

What everyone else said about cleaning, though your vet can probably give you good suggestions.

Axel died last night somewhere between 4.30am and 7.30am.

My friend is burying her as I type this cause I can't bear to do it.

My husband is outside starting the cleaning process.

We did get the pups from a pet store, it is my fault because I bought them as is, they were not vaccinated, we had the pups booked in for vaccinations this week.

Parvo is rampant in this town at the moment, the vet told me.

                Off to cry now.

Parvo is a horible disease (funny how we see a lot of fund raising for diseases that have a very high cure rate but not ones like this) and is highly contageous. I'm willing to bet there is a common factor with the outbrake in your area - the pet store, a dog park, a shelter, something.

I know this may sound low but ff you hadn't had the puppies long I'd go back to the pet store and insist on getting your money back.

                          This is terrible news.

I know I shouldn't but I;m really blaming myself, I had been staying awake to give her electrolytes every hour, I gave her a dose at 3.30am and came inside to watch tv and fell asleep on the couch, didn't wake up til 7.30am.

I keep thinking if I stayed awake to give her more doses she would be alive.

                            I really hate myself.

It's nobody's 'fault' other than the stinking, dirty, unethical pet store business.
