Dave the Cookie Man is at it again.....
We set up Valentine's Day gift bags in the break room at my store. Originally, I hadn't planned on participating, mainly because I'm still slightly bummed that things went to hell with Angelica (well, sort of. We're still good friends). But I decided I'd make a small amount of cookies for everyone, and took a quick poll to see what kind everyone wanted. THe result was my Original Famous (chocolate & butterscotch chip), but there was also a strong desire for oatmeal-raisin-cranberry-almond, so I decided to make those as well.
Additionally, I'd already decided to do a surprise batch of heart-shaped sugar cookies, frosted with buttercream icing.
So my project went from 1 batch of cookies to 3.....
Then I discovered that I made WAY too much frosting. I frosted the sugar cookies generously, and I still had a lot left over; easily twice as much as I really needed. And as the frosting (which I dyed pink with food coloring) came out REALLY good, it seemed a shame to let it go to waste.....
So.....I whipped up some yellow cake batter using the recipe my mother used when she used to bake our birthday cakes and made cupcakes. And I found a heart-shaped mini cake tin that makes six cakes buried in the deepest recess of of the kitchen cabinets, so of course i had to use that as well. One batch of cake batter netted me 16 cupcakes and 6 mini heart cakes, and I should have plenty of frosting for those.
Yeah, this took ALL DAY. And on top of that I also made dinner for the family.
So this has become a very indulgent and rich day of baking (rich because my mother insisted I use real butter instead of butter flavored Crisco in the cake batter).
