In the past 2 weeks...

Managed to get pneumonia. So missed a lot of work due to that.

Lost my debit card, and someone cleaned out both my checking and savings accounts (savings was tied to checking for overdraft protection). Chase is "investigating", and for now, they've reversed enough charges so that I have $100 to my name until payday. And I'm stuck writing checks - I have no check writing history with this account at any store except my own, so no cash back

Someone tried to break into my apartment. While I was asleep. They screwed up the door frame pretty bad, but managed to set off the burglar alarm and I think it scared them off.

Still feel like shit, but finally got back to work today. Foggy headed as hell. And my till was $100 short at the end of my shift. I don't know how it happened - I only took a single $100 bill today, and it was still in the drawer when I counted down. My coupons were screwy as well. So unless cash up can make the money appear, I get a write up for cash handling and demoted to bagger for a week. Which means cart runs in the middle of winter.. while recovering from pneumonia.

On the plus side, my new-to-me camera (Nikon D1X digital SLR) arrived from a friend. Has a pretty steep learning curve, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Thom Hogan wrote the book I'm reading about my camera. It's a bit dry at times, but it is one helluva thorough book, and shows me every detail about my camera. I take better pictures with it now that I understand more of what it's trying to do.

I've not read his book on the D1X, but I'd expect similar quality. It'd be well worth the price, I think.

My old camera was fairly complex - Sony DSC-F717 (still have it, but it's randomly corrupting images as they're saved now), and after 7 years of ownership I still haven't figured out some of the things it can do. The D1x just... blows the F717 away in everything.

Cash up didn't find it. I walked into the office today and my boss was there and was immediately like "Dude... you were WAY off yesterday, what the hell happened?".

I told him my side, not realizing that our cash up person was also in the office (didn't see her when I walked in) and said "I honestly have no idea what happened, I just had a tiny hope that cash up would figure out what happened". Then I noticed her in there (oops!), and she told me she spent a couple of hours trying to figure out what happened, went through each and every one of my transactions, everything she could do, and even flat out told me she knows I know how to handle money and it may have been a glitch in the registers (though I know that isn't the case, I screwed up somewhere), and both reminded me that I balance more than pretty much any other cashier in the store anyway.

Boss was a little upset, but he knows I've been sick as hell, and just said "Well, shit happens man, I know you've been really sick and I can't believe your doctor even released you to work in this condition". He started to quote policy with large over/shorts and I just said "Yeah yeah, I know, I have to sign a piece of paper and I can't touch money for a week, right?" and he chuckled and said "Yeah, basically". He did tell me that if we get slammed during my week long probation, I might get stuck ringing, I told him that's fine.

Thankfully it's my first performance related writeup here (actually, ANYWHERE I've ever worked), so it's not THAT big of a deal. As long as I don't wind up +/- $49.99+ again within a month of getting back on the registers, if I do then I bag for 6 months-1 year depending how far off I am.

So... I'm walking on nails for about 5 weeks. Then it's back to business as usual.

Can you get your doctor to write you a note saying you can't do cart runs or work outside? I can't imagine that being healthy for you.

Went to another doctor today.

She said the antibiotic the first dr gave me is typically for skin infections, and very weak. She said she didn't think I have pneumonia at all, even after seeing the xrays from the previous doctor. She did, however, say I have a very, very bad case of bronchitis.. coupled with a sinus infection and an ear infection, and generally being extremely run down from trying to work like this.

She also told me I'm in absolutely no condition to be working with the public, working outside, or working with food, and generally in no condition to be doing anything except eating and sleeping for several days, and gave me a note for work as well, along with orders to come back on Sunday if I don't feel better so she can extend my work absence. I'm going to wind up burning through all of my vacation as it is though, so I don't have much choice there.

Got a shot in, uh, both cheeks. Then got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for over 30 minutes because of a wreck in front of the clinic - and my car has 3 pedals (manual transmission)... turning the other cheek was not an option and I wanted to shove a small child every time I had to use my clutch foot.
