    You're beautiful

    Today is Tell Her She's Beautiful Day. I got the invite from a friend on facebook. It was started by an older man who noticed that women are becoming more and more insecure because of the media and wanted to spread the word that all women are beautiful.

    Guys, you are a part of this too because we know that you can be insecure too.

    So to everyone, you're all beautiful.

              I managed to participate in this without even knowing about it!

              I was trying to cheer up a coworker who just broke up with her long-term boyfriend and is feeling in the dumps. She's in excellent physical shape, and asks me "do you think I'm fat?"

              I put my arm around her shoulders and told her - very honestly - that she's one of THE most beautiful girls I've ever met in my entire life. She looked me in the eye and her voice actually cracked when she asked 'really??"

              "Yes, you are. And I've met some VERY beautiful girls, so that's saying a LOT."

                I love nice old guys. Not the leering kind.

                That's a pretty nifty idea considering a lot of girls I know hate themselves, suffer from depression (or the seasonal one, like I'm currently doing, weird, huh?) or just simply feel like they are inferior people.

                Been there. In some cases, still there. But what women need to know is that's just the seeds of doubt and sexism.

                  I gotta say, the BF is pretty wonderful about this. I have horrid self-esteem issues; I always have. But he's finally convinced me that he is physically attracted to me. Some nights I'll switch on the webcam, and I'm just wearing a dumpy t-shirt and my hair's all stringy and gross..and he'll say, "wow, you're so beautiful" Such a sweetie.

                        OMG, "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt is SOOO overplayed! I prefer Weird Al Yankovic's spoof of it, "You're Pitiful"!

                        Oh, wait... You mean this thread isn't about James Blunt's big hit? Oh, well, nevermind then.

                              At the university where I work, bathrooms in most buildings had post-it notes on one mirror in each, saying "You're beautiful today!" They (whoever it was) left a packet of post-its and a couple of pens on the sinks below the mirrors. As the day went on more people added their own post-it with words of encouragement.

                              I thought it was a fun idea to participate in, had no inkling it was a sort of holiday!
