  • Laptop bags for big laptops

I've got an Acer Aspire laptop with an 18.4" screen. When I got it I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to take it anywhere because all the 'oversized' bags are made for 17" laptops.

Any users of big laptops here? What kind of bag do you use? Do you find that the claimed internal dimensions of bags are accurate?

One of the 17" bags gives dimensions that almost fit mine -- it's an oversized canvas backpack from Case Logic, and in thickness and depth it will fit, but in length mine is about an inch over.

Just looking for some brainstorming... thanks.

    Found one

Its a plain black bag, but with the laptop being so big, i doubt youll be able to find the cute ones that large.

Maybe throw some patches/embellishments on one and make it your own?

EIGHTEEN INCHES on a laptop screen?

That's bigger than my first few monitors and almost the same size of the samller ones out there now!

It's going to be pretty tough to find much for that size. I have a hard enough time finding a bag I like for the new laptop I'm getting with a 17 in screen, so there probably isn't going to much out there. That said Newegg did turn up these two

I have a Toshiba backpack and it works well for me. Granted my laptop is only a 17in one.

And people say my 17" screen is big...

It does make watching movies on it pretty nice.

Um, why not just get a mail bag that they sell in most stores and use neoprene to boost up the padding on the sides.

Your not talking about my mail satchel are ya EQ? Cause that would be a really bad idea, no support at all to keep the laptop safe.

Or...do you mean a messenger bag? Still don't have good padding for laptops. Toshiba does sell a messenger styled bag but when using it for school is kinda awkward depending on what books are in the bag as well.

Yeah, one of those. Like I said, add extra padding with neoprene.

I have a 16" laptop but I use one of these.

The width part is pretty flexible as it has a elastic strap with velcro to hold it down.

Its a nice backpack with far more storage space than I need. Holds a couple cd binders, a few books, change of cloths, has a spot for my headphones and it still has more space that I don't want to fill because it already weighs a ton.

It is a nice fit for mine after I put a neoprene sleeve on it.
may be a tight fit but almost positive it will fit.
laptop size for mine is 15.4"x10.6"x1.5" at its max.

by the way thats quite a beast. I recently moved back to a full sized laptop from a netbook and I find my 16" huge.

If you can. Please post the dimensions of the laptop. It would make it a bit easier.

I find there is room for two laptops - one of them being 17" - in the computer compartment of my Targus Backpack. It is of course the oversized model for 17"ers, and I got it from my local Apple retailer.

So there's a reasonable chance that an 18" model will fit in it, even if it's somewhat thicker than my MBP.

I do recommend Targus if you can manage it. Their bags are extremely durable.

My current laptop is about to expire and has been put out to pasture until a new one can be afforded.

Meanwhile, I still have the aluminum briefcase* that I purchased for it. Really beautiful shiny metal, solid construction, and looks like someone might be storing a nuclear bomb in it. Looks similar to the picture below.

Here are a few options from Wal-Mart. They seem pretty reasonably priced and shipping is cheap.

I just bought a laptop with a 17 inch screen, and the laptop bag, I had for my laptop with a 15 inch screen is barely cutting it anymore. I'm probably going to sell my old one to the person who bought my laptop and then buy a new one.

Targus are very reliable and chances are, you should be able to find something there. I use the backpack around uni, as it has enough space to hold my laptop, cables (separate compartment), three or four textbooks and all my other little things without causing me back pain.

Alternately, some camping backpacks designed or can be used as school bags (i.e. Caribee (do they make them in the US?)) might be convertable...especially if they have 3 or more pockets. The furthest back pocket could be useful as a laptop pocket (add extra padding if you need it), then the other pockets can be used for extra things.
