  • Photo project HALP!! (Deadline involved!!)

mk, so this semester I'm a research assistant for one of my profs. Well, she pulled me off the project I was working on on Tuesday, and asked me to start another one, which I agreed to, since it supposedly just involved google image search... Stupid me!!

The project is as follows: I'm to search for headshot images of women between the ages of 20 & 30 online, no celebrities, and place them in folders titled attractive and unattractive, for a research experiment concerning first impressions and judgments based on looks. Now, I've managed to find lots of headshots. My problem is classifying them, as I think the ones i managed to find are all attractive. However, I was raised never to judge someone by looks, so I don't really know how to classify women as unattractive, and when I run a google search for something generic like plain looking women, or unattractive women, I get some....colorful and frightening sites. My google fu has failed me!!

I emailed my prof the pics I had as of last night, asking for input on which category I needed to work on, but have yet to receive a response! My deadline to have all the images in is midnight CST tomorrow because the first wave of experimental surveys is slated to start in New York on Monday, supposedly.

So, my question is thus, can any of my fellow CSers help me find headshots of women who are supposedly "plain looking" or "unattractive" (I hate those words!!) They must be headshots, or head and shoulders, good quality, decent size, AND the women must be smiling, as we don't want to bias the subjects with frowning faces, as that is instinctively thought to be less attractive than smiling.

ETA: Barring that, is there anyway someone would be willing to fileshare with me in the next few hours, so i can show the images i have and help me rate them accordingly...?

I've been working on this for days, and I'm getting a bit frustrated. Grr.

    HEEEEEEEELLLLPPP!!!

    I'm plain looking. Use me.

Oh wait, I already sent the email.

Yis, yis you did. I'm including it because she said headshots, and i do have some 3/4 and profiles, so we'll see what prof thinks. She was happy looking people, but you're cute. that'll get ya far.

I'm tempted to throw my own pic in there, honestly...

That's a hard project, "attractive" is very subjective. I would help, but what usually attracts me to a woman is their personality and looks don't play much of a factor for me. There have been times when my fellow guys think this girl is very very plain looking, and I'll see her as VERY attractive.

So yeah I'm not being very helpful, hope it works out for you though!!

And EQ, Lupo's right, you do have a bit of a cuteness factor.

Have you tried hunting through Facebook, Myspace, or Photobucket? I wish I had some pictures to share, but all I can find are group shots.

I've been hunting through flickr, but I don't have a myspace or facebook account, and I'm not going to sign up for one just to look for photos. and Photobucket...I tried searching, and well, nothing comes up!

I sent my prof an email with the photos I had to date, over 20, almost 30, and she scrapped all but 10. >.>

Apparently i need to find headshots of women who fit classical ideals of beauty, too, or, in her words:

            Quoth prof lady
Also think about attractiveness in terms of conventional attractiveness (beauty queens, symmetry in features, clear skin). Think about unattractiveness more like boring, plain, and unremarakble (everyday people) instead of ugly.
This is getting really uber frustrating! I've got another set of about 25 images but now i think they may not be pretty enough. gaaaah. Research assistant is fun and all, but sometimes it stinks.

You should be able to find some less-than-attractive headshots there.

Want my picture? You can put me in the unattractive side since I'm not completely symmetrical.

I think I might get the idea of her goals.

Attractive group: think plastic-y, think very much dolled up.

Unattractive group: think more down-to-earth, think more sensible.

To inject a certain degree of humour into this discussion, and expand on fireheart17's post...

Attractive: Hermione Granger (as seen in the movies)
Down-to-earth: Hermione Granger (as described in the books)

Attractive: Ginny Weasley (as described in the books, admittedly from a biased point of view)
Down-to-earth: Ginny Weasley (as seen in the movies)

                    Personally, I don't even care.

Well, my prof has extended the deadline to Tuesday midnight, which i take to mean I failed at finding enough photos for her. Boo.

Again the guidelines I were given are as follows:

                      Quoth the prof
                      - headshots of women in their 20s-30s, all races.
                      - must not be cut off
                      - must be a face shot from the front
                      - must be smiling or slightly smiling

Also think about attractiveness in terms of conventional attractiveness (beauty queens, symmetry in features, clear skin). Think about unattractiveness more like boring, plain, and unremarakble (everyday people)
Anyone have any ideas...? I'm meeting her Tuesday afternoon for another assignment, but if I can compile a few more photos between now and then, that'd be pretty spiffy. Just...grr...I thought I did well, but since the deadline's been extended...I'm thinking not. again. Boo.

And EQ, she said you looked too young! More confirmation you are, in fact, TWELVE!!

                        *heaves a heavy sigh*

No one would ever guess I turned 23 last fall.

Try this: http://www.headshots101.com/ and similar sites that feature actor headshots. There should be plenty of 'character' actors in the mix that don't fit convential standards of beauty.

Need to go edit the other post, then.
