  • Sick again... and my body has pulled a Murphy's Law on me.

I'm getting really sick of getting bronchitis and pneumonia. My main issue lies with the fact that I've developed yet another antibiotic allergy. This means that I can take only -one- antibiotic without having to be hospitalized... and it's not effective against respiratory infections.

    [sarcasm]
    Oh -goody-!
    [/sarcasm]

I'm on steroids (inhaled and pill-form) to help open up my airways so that I can breathe.

I have 3 days to start getting better...

    And then they'll hospitalize me.

    Yay fun?

I'll get to be hospitalized while they dose me up with high-impact antibiotics... and epinephrine and liquid Benadryl to counter the anaphylactic reaction.

Ya' know... at first it was normal. "Yeah. I'm allergic to penicillin." Next is was slightly amusing. "Oh joy. I'm allergic to two types of antibiotics." Then it was less amusing. "Wait... three?" Then is was frustrating. "You're telling me that I can only tolerate one type of antibiotic?" Now... Now I'm just pissed. "One. There's only one left that I can take without my airways shutting down. ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS???" And this one isn't effective against anything but surface infections. "FUCK!"

    GAH!

Seriously. I need a new body. This one's cute and all... but I think it's defective.

    Here's to getting better !!

I'm sorta having a similar issue, but I currently can take 3 different antibiotics.. not sure how long that'll last.

Hope you're pumping up with lots of vitamin C, etc. Rest, relax, make your kids wait on you hand and foot... lol. They can eat sandwiches for a couple days... right?

upside to this is, well it may cause the allergy to go away-when I had a form of strep that was resistant to everything but penicillin they offered me that option to "kill" the allergy as well as the strep.

Have you talked to your doctor about the vaccine against pneumonia? They do make one....
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Wait...there are only 3 types of antibiotics out there?

Odd. You learn new stuff every day.

I had thought there were a lot more classes of antibiotics than that.

I found this on a Google search.

          * Penicillins such as penicillin and amoxicillin

          * Cephalosporins such as cephalexin (Keflex)

          * Macrolides such as erythromycin (E-Mycin), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin (Zithromax)

          * Fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin), and ofloxacin (Floxin)

          * Sulfonamides such as co-trimoxazole (Bactrim) and trimethoprim (Proloprim)

          * Tetracyclines such as tetracycline (Sumycin, Panmycin) and doxycycline (Vibramycin)

          * Aminoglycosides such as gentamicin (Garamycin) and tobramycin (Tobrex)
If your doctor has only tried 3 types and you're having allergies to all of them, maybe you could check with your doctor to find something from another class.

          Drug allergies suck.

I know my Mom is really limited in what she can take, but I'm pretty sure her doctor has been able to find at least one thing that works for her.

I have no idea what that is, though. I wish I did. (Sadly, she's much too confused now to ask her about it.)
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

that's what I'm on right now...trying to decide if I'm significantly better enough after 2 days or if I'm gonna end up needing a chest x-ray...

Nope... That was just the progression of my allergy acquisitions. First one. Then the whole subtype. Then another... and that whole subtype... Etc, etc. I'm just waiting for the day that I go to take the last one I'm not allergic to and start having a serious reaction. As it is, it makes me incredibly nauseous. (Bactrim sucks.)

I've so far been lucky and have had only minor tummy troubles...eating Activia yogurt with it, though. But I'm only on day 4..

Sorry NSI. Hopefully the yogurt helps keep side effects at bay.

New allergy -- apparently, you can be allergic to certain blood pressure medicines, with the same or similar reactions as to antibiotics. It was almost an ER visit, and a horrible weekend.

I'm with NotSoInnocent... I need a new frikin body. Younger without so many wrinkles and dry skin, please. Maybe a few inches taller too. ::sigh::

I'm 29 years old and 6 feet tall. Want mine? We can do a round robin until everybody finds a body they like... Of course, by that point, they will have perfected the "body-fixing pill" and we can all be healthy, svelte, tan and tall without having to do a thing.
