  • Cheer up my playlist

So I've just bought myself a new itunes card and find that my songlist is currently a bit on the depressing side.

So suggest to me happy songs, ones that made you dance, something that makes you smile or anything like that.

My suggestions will almost all be classic rock. It's what I listen to. So either enjoy, or my apologies.

Almost anything by AC/DC. High energy fun music.
"Start Me Up" by the Rolling Stones.
"Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones.
"Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum.
"If You Can't Be With the One You Love the One You're With" by I'm not sure who.
"No Sugar Tonight" by The Guess Who.
"Join Together" by The Who. Not their typical stuff, very upbeat and fun and somewhat danceable.
"Long Live Rock" by The Who.
      "L.A. Woman" by The Doors.
      "Back to Avalon" by Heart.
"Steve McQueen" by Sheryl Crow. I am shocked I have never gotten a speeding ticket while listening to this in the car.
"The Day the Nazi Died" by Chumbawumba. Despite the title and the lyrics, very upbeat fun song. Maybe partly because of the lyrics, too.
      "1999" by Prince.
      "Eat the Rich" by Aerosmith.
"Fly Like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band.
"Circle in the Sand" by Belinda Carlisle. (Shut up. It's a good upbeat song, and I love Belinda.)
Anything by the Go-Go's. Fun, fun band!
Speaking of fun bands, check out Mojo Nixon. Also Dread Zeppelin.

These are just off the top of my head. Something tells me I could go on for hours in this vein.

Good list. Can't believe I forgot about Sheyl Crow (Soak up the Sun - such a summer song). I know I've got sprit in the sky somewhere and well the stones just have to be there. AC/DC rock got For Those About to Rock playing just now.

Heart I see made the list definitly a soft spot for them (Dog and Butterfly - classic album) since hubby had quite a bit of their stuff.

1999 & Circle in the sand were already on my own list lol

My iTunes has a heavy dose of game show themes in it. Really. Think about it: what's more cheerful-sounding than, say, the original Family Feud theme?
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

-And listen to some clips of songs from Owl City. It's techno pop I guess, but it's usually pretty happy sounding. "Fireflies" is a popular hit from the Ocean Eyes album.

The following songs always get me smiling:

                          Crocodile Rock -- Elton John
                          The Lovecats -- The Cure
The Longest Time -- Billy Joel

Do you like classical at all? You might try some of Mozart's more playful serenades, like Eine kleine Nachtmusik. I've always found them very uplifting, probably because of all the horns.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Soak Up the Sun is awesome. Lots of good upbeat Sheryl songs.

And we seem to have similar taste, so I shall throw more artists out there:

Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Joe Walsh, George Thorogood, Styx, Bon Jovi, Alanis Morrisette (she does have some upbeat positive songs....really!), Avril Lavigne, Weird Al Yankovic (how can you not laugh to some of his stuff?), Natalie Merchant (voice of a freakin' angel!), the Indigo Girls, The Who, The Ramones, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Traveling Wilburys, ELO, BTO, the Gin Blossoms, the Tubes, Violent Femmes, etc., etc.

Obviously not all the songs by the above artists fit the criteria, but all of them have some or more songs that do. And no, not all of the above are classic rock, but I never said that that was ALL I listen to! Oh, and let's not forget the one hit wonder Harvey Danger, and their awesome one hit "Flagpole Sitta." Anyone who wants to sit in the corner and mope when this song is playing definitely has some issues!

And I don't know if you can get it where you are, and he is a local performer down here, but Michael McCloud has some great stuff. Much of it is really mellow, but some of it is really fun, especially the classic "She's Got a Butt," a song he wrote in an attempt to drive an annoying staffer to quit the bar he was playing in. (It succeeded.) Another local Key West performer that you might be able to access via the magic of the web is Jared Michael Hobgood. Specifically look for his song "Bottle of Rum." One of my all time favorites.

My favorite band. "Dreamboat Annie" and "Little Queen" are simply classic albums, period.

Oh, I forgot a couple! These are both by the Brit band Babybird:

                              The F Word
                              Lighter 'n' Spoon

Both are a lot of fun.
