This weekend we house-hunted. On the way home we stopped at a comic shop and serendipity! a woman was selling the owner a bunch of boxes of used books (she said her husband died of cancer and had a huge sf/fantasy collection, and she needed the money).
We asked the owner if he was planning to sell them in the shop and he said he really just felt sorry for her. It's true the books weren't worth nearly what he gave her- a couple of the boxes were badly stored so the books had been exposed to humidity and had swelled and stuck together. But he let us dig through and purchase what we wanted very cheaply.
I finished my Thomas Covenant collection and got a bunch of Clifford D. Simak novels!
