  • I'm never buying from Ebay Again.

So I bought an xBox 360 from ebay. The seller claimed it was a working machine but didn't know how long it would be that way since it was a system that was returned to the store. Supposedly, they tested it for an hour with no problems.

I got it in the mail today. What luck! In the same mailing pick-up I got the game I ordered to go with it; Bioshock. So I plug the system into the TV and turn it on only to find the e74 error message.

    CRAP.

So I contact the seller, asking them what I should do. They said nothing; it's a system that they never promised was working.

Uh, yeah ya did. It said "working" in the title. They refuse to give me my money back so I contacted PayPal about it. Any ideas how long it's going to take PayPal to say something about it? So far all I've managed to do was argue with the seller over their little message system and I don't want to be childish about this. I just want my $80 back.

What do you guys think? Am I SOL? Should I buck up and buy a new system from a brick and mortar store for twice the amount and deal with it?

The only time I had an issue that involved PayPal was when someone got hold of my account to purchase "points" with some online game. They had my money returned to me by the end of the week. I was notified of the transaction on Monday.

However, in your case, you may well have to jump through some more hoops. I would, at the very least, make sure you have a copy of the auction saved to your computer. Pull the page up and use PDF Creator (if you use windows and don't have another PDF tool) to make a PDF of the page, and save it to your computer as proof of their claims. Then also contact eBay about the product. It is not as advertised, and I believe they will do something about it.

    Don't give up on it.

By any chance, do you have an auction number?

Also did you file a dispute through ebay? From what I can tell, they're fairly pro-buyer and may have more of an ability to force the seller to refund you. You may have to ship the xbox back to the seller at your own expense though.

If you decide to buy a new XBox, check out pawn shops. They're generally cheaper than the game stores and I've never had a problem with anything I bought from one.

You can also try second-hand game stores. The one in my town doesn't offer returns, but they will replace a non-functioning unit.

Paypal is generally compliant with giving money back. Thats one of the faults of paypal (for sellers), they usually side with the buyer.

Make sure you save the auction and that it DOES indeed have "working" somewhere in there or you will be SOL. Follow Paypals debt resolution steps.

            The seller was dead wrong.

You's wants I should go 'splain things to 'em...??

Ahem, mafia mug persona aside, follow up, document and ride his ASS (ok, maybe not...) while still filing complaints through ebay and paypal. Get the money back because even if he claimed he didn't know how long it would work for, he DID advertise it as working, thus, sold you a lemony XBox. Listen to what everyone has said and document, document, document.

              Good luck!!
