More details...
So I was walking from my truck to The Bar yesterday morning (parking in downtown Key West is absolutely brutal!), and I was passing a relatively new and rather small tea and spice store. No biggie, didn't think twice about it....until I noticed the large message they had put on a blackboard out front: "We have dried GHOST PEPPERS."
No way!
As it turned out...way.
Each package cost a mere $5.50, and came with about 3 dried ghost peppers. Now, unless you are feeding Satan his morning oatmeal, that amount will last you a while! I picked up two packages, one for myself and one for my friend Cookie (who teamed up with me for the recent chili cookoffs), and everyone was happy.
Amusingly, at one point I was asking one of the store's proprietors how much would be good for a huge pot of chili. He said, "Oh, just test it out by biting on one of the corners." I just looked at him. "Have you lost your mind?!?!" Even I'm not stupid nor brave or stupid enough to bite into a pepper that is over 3 times hotter than a freakin' habanero!
More amusement: at work, when telling one of my coworkers about my new acquisition, she told me to remember to wear gloves when dealing with it. "Duh! I wear gloves when I deal with serranos! For these, I am probably going to double glove!!!"
But now I have the ultimate skull-blowing chili ingredient. The Evil Chili....will....RISE! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

I heard cinnmon is good with chili. I've used it myself. It works. If its just the right amount. Too little you won't notice, too much and its way too sweet.Military Spouse Support.

I dont know if you can get it where you are, but hubby has a jar of "curried chilles" in the fridge at all times
This stuff is leathal and rumours abound that if you dont keep it refrigeratied the jars can explode. Once a jar leaked the car on the way home and I thought we would have to call in hazmat to clean it up.
Just a drop or 2 should add a nice kick to any chilli or curry. I beleive they are originally a South African thing (hubby lived there) and we pick them up from the local SA shop.
Even if you dont use them in your chilli, if you like a good hot pepper, he highly recommends them. Personally I find them too hot for my taste, but that is becuase I am used to sweet curries and chillies. Hubby is slowly weaning me onto the hotter stuff
