  • and how did you spend *your* afternoon, Green_Fairy?

so today i went to the tire store to get my tires checked out before i drive to arizona. my tires were about 4 years old and pretty worn so i decided to get new ones. i made an appointment for 4pm, went home, and worked on some packing.
i got there a little before 4. about 10 after, they took my car back.
around 5, one of the guys came out to tell me that they had to go to another store because they had taken inventory wrong and didn't have 3 of my tires.
a little before 6 they take me back to look at my car up on the lift to show me that the passenger side back tire's loose. like...i forgot what he said exactly but long story short, it might go flying off when we're on the road to arizona. he told me i'm going to have to pay almost $300 for the parts/labor.
i ended up driving off a little after 6
soo...they took over 2 hours to do a tire change and they tell me i'm gonna have to pay more money or die...that i'm not even sure i'm going to be able to do. freakin' awesome.

Car stuff sucks. A couple weeks ago I went for an oil change ($10 bucks for me at my dealer) and they found leaking radiator hoses and my coolant was almost gone. $10 oil change turned into $356.

at least you weren't totally out of coolant. that could've caused maaaaaaaajor issues. like broken engine syndrome. yanno...the one where it falls out of the bottom of your car?

        Yeah. That would be bad.

The day I went was the day of the freakin' hurricane we had. The other guy in the waiting room actually moved away from the big picture window because of the wind.

when i was sitting in the lobby today, it was really windy. the door kept opening and closing by itself, really annoying the guy behind the counter. started muttering that he kept thinking people were walking in

aaah! aahaha! i just remembered something that happened!

shortly after i got there, i was sitting in the lobby, minding my own business reading a book (creme puff murder, for those interested) and a teenager annoyed with how long his car is taking tosses the magazine he's reading at the table and misses. he lets it sit there for about 5 minutes, so i quietly lean over, pick it up off the floor, and place it on the table. without comment, without looking at him. and go back to reading my book.
his mom starts quietly chewing him out and he says "she was disrespectfully rude and you're getting mad at me?"

I lucked out last time I bought tires. They screwed up and made it right with a free tire.

They were suppose to rotate my best front tire back to my spare rim, because it was almost new and really didn't need to be replaced. They forgot and threw all the old tires out, and directly onto the truck that comes by and picks up the old tires for wherever old tires go to die.

The truck was gone by the time they pulled my truck out of the bay, so they replaced my spare with a brand new one for free.

The previous trip to the shop was for brakes. THAT one turned out to be nothing (pads were fine for another 6-8 months and the squealing was just dust) BUT they found a coolant leak which was dripping FROM the timing belt housing, meaning the timing belt needed replacing.

I got out of there without paying anything, but with a $1100 estimate.
