    I heard it's been upgraded to a 7.2. Hope everyone's ok. That's one thing I don't miss about So.Cal.

I live in Northern California right now and we generally don't feel the quakes. But when I lived in the bay area I went through many of them.

The quake was in Baja, actually, but HECK YEAH!! We rocked and rolled for at least a full minute! Nothing strong, but it's kinda scary when it lasts more than a few seconds.

Didn't feel a thing up here in the Bay. At least, I didn't.

            Nice little shake map:

Can you tell where the fault is?

it looks like the quake went up the fault line - about 60-75 miles?

Edit: I just realized there was a small one in Maine (south of Bangor) over the past week, that's not too common.

Edit2: Am I the only one who raises an eyebrow whenever they see a CNN story about some event (like the Haiti and Chile earthquakes etc..) and they always have the link "Are you there? Send us pictures!!!"

Nope. And after I lower my raised eyebrow, I start laughing.

I'm on the east coast, but Dad is in San Diego and grandmother (his mom) is in Coronado. I'm so glad everyone is safe, but I can only imagine how scary it must be for the earth to literally shake and not know when/if it's going to stop. Not to mention being next to the ocean and the tsunami implications. I'm an anxious person, could you tell?

It seems they have a good sense of humor about those things out there...my dad's friend's Facebook status was "7.2....that'll shake your martini!"

This is my second earthquake since we came back to LA, and this is also the second time I slept right through it! It was kind of weird, I never take naps during the day, but I just got SO tired about 3 o'clock. Maybe it's my body's way of not wigging the heck out, who knows?

That's how you know you've become a real Californian: when you get a decent quake, and think of it as "a nice little ride!"

Personally, unless an earthquake does damage, I think they're kinda fun.

Is it weird for an earthquake to give you an adrenaline rush?

It looks like a giant cut. It needs a Bandaid.

You mean there are people who *don't* get a rush from it??! Are they under heavy sedation or something??

Back in April of '92, my brother, who was in the Navy and stationed in San Diego (lived in Imperial Beach) made plans to fly back up home here to Seattle (another quake prone place) for a quick, literally less than 48 hour visit. I hadn't seen him for 15 years at the time.

Maybe a day or so before he was due, they had a quake, (the Big Bear one IIRC.) It was, I think, a 6. something, so significant, but nowhere near catastrophic.

I thought, "Aw crap! he's gonna want to stay down there with his wife and kids, (as I believed he should under possibly dangerous circumstances), to make sure everything's okay, especially if there are significant aftershocks."

I call him up, in a bit of a panic; "Is everybody okay? I suppose you're going to cancel your trip up here, now."

Don't recall exactly what he said, but basically told me something that at that low of a magnitude was nothing, something they deal with all the time.

It sure gave me one hell of a rush. I was laying down trying to relax after mowing my lawn when it hit.
