  • All I want for Christmas is My Two Front-Oh wait, I got those.

Well, this morning I went in and got a whole bunch of teeth pulled. That wasn't too bad although I remember waking up before the anesthesia completely wore off and feeling them putting the stitches in. Not super painful just unexpected there.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for soft, easy to eat foods. Right now I have pudding and yogurt. I've also been smooshing up bananas since they're easier to eat that way. I have no molars now so even though I'm technically allowed to start eating solid food tomorrow, I'm not sure how much of it I can handle. I know steak dinners are out

The recovery process is going to be fun but it will be so nice not to play the which side of my mouth is going to hurt today game. The good news is, maybe I'll end up losing some weight with all this. Can't complain there.

Forgive the rambling, drugs still have me kinda woozy.

Mac and cheese, ice cream, mashed potatoes, applesauce... I've known people who ate baby food (fruits, mostly). Some cooked vegetables are soft enough.

Nutrition shakes (Ensure, Slim Fast) are a good way to get some actual nutrition.

When I was 11 I had all four first premolars removed (had to make room for my teeth to move before I could get my braces on because my jaw is too small). The next day my parents had friends over and they ordered pizza for them and the other kids...and I had to eat mac and cheese.

Little Debbies if you want a snack. Fudge rounds and oatmeal cream pies got my through my wisdom teeth removal.

My particular faves are Mashed taters, soup, banana baby food (i swear by it!), rice, applesauce, vienna sausages..anything that I can just swallow is usually good when I have dental fun-ness happening.

Celery, carrots, ice cubes, Jolly Ranchers....

If it's all right to ask, how did you end up needing all your molars out at once?

No problems with asking. Let's just say I have really crappy teeth. They've been needing worked on for a couple years now but I either didn't have the money or had really lousy/non-existent dental insurance. And yes, I could have gotten them done a couple at a time, but I decided I'd rather just get it all over with. Fortunately, this place offers payment plans with good enough credit. Of course the bridges/implants is where it starts costing real money. My job is doing open enrollment soon so I may switch dental insurance if it covers more. I'll just have to make sure current dentist accepts said insurance.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I hadn't even thought of the protein shake idea. I may pick a pack of that up next time I'm at work and just keep some in my locker.

When I got my wisdom teeth out my surgeon gave me a small can of Ensure with my little "goody bag" of care instructions and whatnot. It didn't taste great, but this was years ago (1993), so I don't know if the flavor has improved since then. My mom used it to make a milkshake and it wasn't too bad. Something like Carnation Instant Breakfast powder might be good, too. Slightly cheaper than cans, at least, if a little less convenient.

Scrambled eggs should be easy enough to eat, too, to get some good protein.

                Faggots and mash (no, seriously)
                Ravioli?
Soft boiled eggs with bread soldiers
Tuna Mayo (with whatever you want really!)

I'd ease off from anything with an extreme of temp for a few days (such as icecream), that can sting like a mofo if it hits the hole!

When I had several root canals done, I found that steamed salmon and French onion soup was a good variation to youghurt and potato mash.
Though it only works if none of the missing teeth are molars.

Mashed potatoes and creamy soups would be favorites. Also, noodle-based soups and foods.

If you have a blender, you can make your own creamy soups, along with things like smoothies.

Fish is fairly easy to eat, if you like fish. As are eggs. Breads can also be quite soft. Wonder Bread (you wonder how they can call it bread) has almost no substance to it, so it would be good if you can't chew, but don't try spreading anything like peanut butter on it. Jellies, on the other hand.
