Not even a full day yet, and only just over twelve hours. It's about this time of day the forum gets busier, so you have a better chance of an answer now.

With that description, I have no idea.

        A few questions, though...

        1) when did it look like it was made? Fairly recent, 80's, 70's, 50's?

        2) what genre (comedy, action, drama)?

        3) any clues as to where it was made? USA, UK, Italian, Japan, etc.?

This may help us narrow it down...
"Kamala the Ugandan Giant" 1950-2020 • "Bullet" Bob Armstrong 1939-2020 • "Road Warrior Animal" 1960-2020 • "Zeus" Tiny Lister Jr. 1958-2020 • "Hacksaw" Butch Reed 1954-2021 • "New Jack" Jerome Young 1963-2021 • "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff 1949-2021 • "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton 1958-2021 • Daffney 1975-2021

Considering the info that was given to us, I would have to say it's a drama.

No chance you remember one of the actors in it?

I spent an hour searching. I have NO IDEA. But it sounds awesome.
I've spent a good couple of hours doing my own searches, and I can't for the life of me figure out what this movie might be. Running the keywords that seem to crop up from the description (boss, father/daughter relationship, hitman, new year's, etc.) has Dick Tracy Returns as the movie that pops up most frequently. However, that was made in the late 30s, and the OP mentions yellow coats, which rules out that movie (since the movie the OP is thinking of has to be in color). I'm guessing that the movie was made sometime in the 21st century, since the OP mentions that the main character discovers his daughter using a sex chat site to talk with his boss.

Using the most prominent keywords from what the OP described, I've been able to narrow the possibilities down to four: Pineapple, Something New, Ghost World, and Bridget Jones's Diary. Other movies that pop up in the most logical time frame include One Hour Photo, The Woodsman, and Revolver. The only problem is that upon examination, none of those movies sounds close to what the OP wanted.

Anyway, it seems that we know for sure that this movie is a drama that was made sometime in the 21st century and that most of the characters wear yellow coats and blue hard hats.

Yes I believe it was a drama and made in the late 90's or 2000's.
I too have searched for hours on imdb.com, blockbuster.com, google, bing, etc... Nothing.

I was thinking it was Kirk Douglas as the father but his wikipedia doesn't list anything like it.

I am starting to think it was a made for TV type thing for HBO or Showtime. I use to channel surf alot late at night. But I also use to rent odd movies from blockbuster.com
