  • These must be the "in sickness" part

Well no we aren't really married but my boyfriend has been in the hospital since Tuesday. Went in not being able to breathe very well, he has congestive heart failure, where your lungs fill up with fluid and you are basically drowning. Which means he also has a bad heart. So today they are implanting an icd, which is basically a defibrillator (sp?) and if his heart ever goes into defib and starts beating really erratically this will shock him just like the paddles do ...to bring it back in to normal rhythm.

    Wish us luck.

I wish you lots of luck. My father has had heart issues for many years, so I understand it's tough right now.
      Good luck

I wish you the best of luck

My grandmother had congestive heart failure. She had 2 mitral heart valve transplants (that sounds about right), One of them was a porcine replacement (from a pig), and the other was a mechanical valve, a stainless steel alloy. I dont know what happened with the first transplant, but the second one lasted her a good 20 years (they told her that she should get it replaed after 5, she was just really stubborn)

She had to take a diuretic and anticoagulant, but she lived a long life.

Lot's of hugs and lovin's to you and your boyfriend.

Hugs and chocolate. Someone I know had a heart attack going on for 10 days. 10 DAYS. before the stupid doctors got it diagnosed and treated. And he's still going strong!

Hearts are pretty neat things- and they're resiliant. So hugs, and chocolate, and good thoughts.

If I can ask, which hospital? Our family's had experiences at quite a few area hospitals.

Thanks Plaid for updating yes he is doing well after the surgery and he should be coming home today so that's good. Gonna be some recovery time but not bad really. These kinds of procedures are done outpatient if you aren't already in the hospital like he was. So basically taking it easy for up to a month but he won't be bedridden

Thanks again all for the wishes/luck/hugs/chocolate etc
