  • My Chat with Dell Tech Support

The names have been changed to protect, well me. Otherwise it's verbatim.

This is an automated email sent from Dell Chat. The following information is a log

    Time Details
05/06/2010 10:19:09AM Session Started with Agent

05/06/2010 10:20:11AM Matt: "Hi, I'm attempting to reinstall Windows XP Pro but I can't get the PC to boot from the CD rom, even if I tell it to. Also, my Windows CD and instructions are in Spanish for some reason, will my reinstall be in Spanish?"

05/06/2010 10:21:56AM Matt: "If it matters I'm doing the reinstall and hard drive wipe because this particular PC had 5 Trojans this morning, and even though AVG was able to find and quarantine them the PC won't restart. It gets to the Welcome screen, and when you click the user name to log in it logs you off right away. It does this even in Safe Mode

05/06/2010 10:23:37AM Matt: "When I tell it to boot from CD I get a message in Spanish, then I hear the CD spin, followed by Windows loading normally until I get stuck at the welcome/log in screen"

05/06/2010 10:24:15AM Matt: "So, I take it no one is actually there?"

    05/06/2010 10:30:47AM Matt: "Bueller?"

05/06/2010 10:32:16AM Agent has left this session!

    Session Ended

I attempted to, but it said there were e-mail problems through their "contact us through e-mail" page.

Idk. I've had a Dell for the last 15 years, and usually haven't had too many problems with either the comp or support. (except that one time, couldn't understand the rep that was in India)

I'm looking to replace my current comp (thanks TechAng for the specs) but just haven't done it yet.

Someone at Dell is going to have a hissy fit though. That automated system email is a tough record to dispute.

I've had a few Dells and hadn't had much trouble with them at all.
Although, I had a question about my video card one time and got frustrated.
Turns out the frustration was my fault, though.
I was trying to determine what kind of video port was on the card. Never saw the type before.
They kept telling me it was a video port at which I said "I know it's a video port, it's on my video card".
Turns out the port is actually called VideoPort.
