  • Update on Ethen our resident ghost

Okay, so we have been putting things up in boxes, so the painting could be done, the carpet cleaned and the furniture brought in.

Anyway, two of my guys took the old couch out and threw it away. They took boxes of stuff out to put in storage.

I forgot to inform one that we consider part of the family of what was going on. So, I'm here alone doing the dishes and the lights in the kitchen and only in the kitchen start flickering. At first, I didn't think much of it, but it kept going on. It dawned on me what was going on. Ethan was trying to get my attention to talk to him. I turn around and said "Yes, I know you are there, Ethan, so please leave the light alone" and the flickering stopped.

A couple days later, when the cubs were in school and only my husband and myself were here. I was facing the light in the upstairs hallway. They started to flicker and only the hall light. I asked my husband if he saw what I was seeing. In his true form, he said "I didn't see a thing" and went back to what he was doing.

So, again, I let Ethan know that I realize it's him and to please stop. The lights stop flickering.

I was talking to my daughter about it and we agreed that he was upset because he thought we were moving out, so we agreed to invite him to come with us if we do leave.

Her and I agree that he is the protector of our home and family.

I sure hope Ethan takes you up on your offer. RW and I lived in a haunted house in NC and we desperately miss "Nana" very much.

I wonder, is there some way to call a ghost and see if it would like to live in your home? I would like for my current house to be haunted.

btw: Did you name Ethan or did you figure out his name? Tell me a story; I like stories.

Ethan made his presence known when we were moving in about 6 years ago. He did all kinds of things to get our attention. He would scare the bejesus out of my little guy. My little guy called him "the invisible man"

So, when the cubs were at school and Mr. Mis was at work, I stood in my living room and yelled "You are more than welcome to stay, but only if you stop scaring my little guy and don't scare any of my cubs or my husband. If you can't or won't agree to my terms I will banish you from this house and don't think for one minute that I can't do so. I didn't get any response that I noticed at the moment, but he abides by the rules I laid out, so he is allowed to stay and me and my cubs are rather fond of him now.

My daughter, Mr. Mis (I was shocked too) and myself sat down one day and decided that our spirit needed a name. Well, my daughter had seen him in her room in his civil war union uniform, so we felt the name Ethan fitted him the best. He responds to it, so even if it isn't his real name he seems to like it.

I can tell you stories all day long about all the spirits I have come across in my lifetime. My family has a long history of being spirit magnets.

Only ghost I've ever met was at the second house I lived in. Between ages of 1-2 years old. I was still in cribs there. Anyway, I do remember being carried up stairs and moments later someone else running up the stairs. Mom and Uncle loved that ghost because it was awesome to listen to, especally when high.

But I never had any problems with him/her. But I do remember the one time he scared the hell out of me. To set the scene, the below is my bedroom for lack of better words.

          [--------------]
          C...........C1 ] C= Closet
          [.................] C1= Crib 1
          [.................] C2 = Crib 2
          [C2............ ] D = Bedroom Door
          ..............D

Now C1 was my cousins crib. C2 was my crib. Inside the closet, against the wall inside the closet, was a green clown that held diapers in its stomach. Keeping up?

Well, I remember waking up and staring over towards my cousin, because we tended to wake each other up at the same time. However, someone was staring at me at the closet.

It was my diaper clown. I shit you not. The clown was OUTSIDE the closet, staring down at me.

I remember crying loudly then. Mom came running in. I tried telling her diaper, but she didn't know what I was saying. I managed to look back, and diaper clown was gone. Closet door shut. Cousin crying now because I woke her.

I doubt it was a dream. I have decent far term memory. But that diaper clown... That is something I'll remember forever, and proof postive to me that ghosts do exist.

When I was pregnant with my 1st son (who is 19 now) the then bf & now ex-hubby moved into a haunted townhouse in Dale City, Va. In the beginning, we only had one chair in the living room, our bed, clothes, our dog Spud, and basic items - no TV, no radio. I worked during the day & he worked evenings delivering pizza so I was alone most evenings with Spud, my chair & whatever I was reading at the time.

In the beginning our ghost would walk up & down the stairs. We had one stair at the bottom that apparently was broken under the carpet & when you stepped on it it would pull away from the wall & slam back. Spuds fur on his back used to rise up & he would sit next to me all tensed up. I was a little bothered at first, but ignored it for the most part - then I noticed that everytime I would turn off the light in the laundry room, close the laundry room door & turn off the light in the hallway - they would pop back on and the door would open.

At that point I did the EXACT same thing you did - I stood in the middle of my living room & said "I know you are here & you know I am here - I LIVE here now & I'm not leaving - I have no problem at all with you staying as long as you respect me & all the living things in this house - otherwise I will banish you from this house!"

Apparently, he listened because he stayed. He continued to turn on the light in the laundry room & open the door, walk up & down the stairs & when we got a TV and I would leave the room he would change the channel on the TV, which was very audible in other parts of the house - hearing the different things on each channel as it would change. I even told him I didn't mind him changing the channels as long as he turned it back to what I was watching when I came back & that became a way of life - walking around the corner into the living room & the TV would automatically turn back to what I was watching.

After my son was born we went to my parents house for Christmas & the car broke down at their house. We were gone about 3 days & tried over & over to get somebody to go to the house to feed the poor dog because we couldn't get there. We were very upset because our dog although extremely friendly was a large male doberman/shepard mix & nobody had the guts to go in the house alone. Turns out we didn't have to worry as much as we did because when we finally got the car fixed & raced home to take care of the dog - our ghost had taken care of it. The food was in a plastic container behind a large glass magnetic door of a stereo cabinet & he had opened it - opened the container & dumped it on the floor.

Eventually our friends heard about "our ghost" and told us we were crazy. My ex & I laughed our butts off one night during a party where a bunch of people were sitting around the kitchen/dining room and our ghost decided to SHOW them he was really there by taking the ashtray on the kitchen island and moving it all the way from one corner to the other corner. We had about 6 people leave the house immediately who never came to our house again until we moved out to another house.

I actually did invite our ghost to move with us, but for whatever reason he didn't and that made me a little sad.

I love your story & can't wait to hear more about Ethan!

No ghosts at my house...except for Snow. That would be my white kitty that died of a heart attack in the kitchen After she died, I was always seeing flashes of white, usually out of the corner of my eye. Also strange, were the scratching noises that came from "her corner" in my office. If I was working on the computer, she was usually curled up in the corner. Before she'd fall asleep, she'd spend several minutes kneading the carpet. I haven't seen any of that in awhile, so I hope the current kitties didn't chase her away

But, I have posted about my grandmother's house before. Always at night, I'd get the feeling that I was being watched...by someone in the room which had been my grandfather's office. That room, looked out into the family room. He'd spend hours at his desk, paying bills, and other business. Also always at night, if I was up late watching TV, I'd suddenly get the feeling that someone had placed their hand on my shoulder

Pretty damn scary, since it was always at night, and that house (which was built in the 1860s) was spooky. But, it always seemed calming--maybe that was his way of letting me know that he was still looking out for his family?

The only haunting weever had was Mango, our malinois who we had to put down at the (very) young age of 5 due to epilepsy.

We didn't see or hear anything at first. My wife was taolking to a (quality over quantity) breeder in VA about adopting one of her soon-to-be retired brood bitches. The breeder had recently gotten two females, one who was rather reserved but looke gorgeous who they were going to kep for breeding and the other one was almost as good looking but was sharp and energetic.

Fate had different plans and Mango, who's attitude quite often resembled that of Puck, we were sure played a part in it.

I won't get into details but we ended up with the reserved one who bonded to me very quickly. My wife claims Mango did it to "win the breed over me". While Mango was sharp and energe3tic, Maiya is sweet and reserved.

I saw Mango around out house in brick, NJ quite a few times. Walking in the hall, peeking her nose (head) around corners to look at us (like she used to). Oddly I was the only one who saw her - it was a while before my wife believed me that I was seeing Mango and not Maiya.

We moved to Florida and sure enough, she followed us, I'm sure she even followed us on our trip back to VA to get another dog - who turned out to be the wrong dog, again (and we spent over a month trying to arrange a switch until the breeder gave up). Luckily Zorro ended up being what we wanted and Wizard (the other puppy) ended up being exactly what their daughter wanted, despite being "switched at 8 weeks". Again, we were convinced that Mango had played a part.

Sadly, I haven't seen Mango in years (ever since we got Kiri). Maybe she's gone ahead of us now to scout out things to come since she's content with where we are now. I'm sure she also put the bug in my wife's ear about vlcaks. I do miss her, though. But, with MacLeod getting old (12 years old now) I'm sure she may pop her head back here to help guide her former partner in crime when the time is close (MacLeod barely ate for a week after Mango died, not until Maiya came into our home).

The store I used to work in in Eatontown, NJ was also haunted. We never found out by who or what but odd things would happen (which can be very odd for new buildings - the building was less than a year old). Phones would ring while they were inside the boxes (and they ship disconnected from the batteries) as well as the occasional accessory or phone box would slide off the shelf or hanger.

I miss the ghost I grew up with. He was my playmate from the time I was 7 until I out grew playing with dolls, and even then he was my confidant and comfort until I moved out to go to college. I offered him a home where ever I went and damn near begged him to go with me, but he didn't want to.

First time I met him though he scared the ever living snot out of me. I'm 7, in a brand new house, first time in my own bedroom. I had a desk and a chair on the other side of the room but the same wall as my headboard. I get this over whelming feeling that something is watching me while I'm sleeping, I roll over and open my eyes and look at my desk. Sure as shit there sits David head cocked to the side watching me sleep. I freaked the hell out. He panicked, made all sorts of calming motions and vanished as soon as my parents opened the door. Mom and dad didn't believe me that I'd seen a ghost until mom walked past my room one day and saw me playing with dolls with half of them moving on their own.
Me to a friend: I know I'm crazy, you know I'm crazy, the zombies at the end of the world will know I'm crazy. Thus not eating my brain for fear of ingesting the crazy. It's my survival plan.

My grandmother's half of a duplex is haunted by a sweet girl of about 12 or so.

The duplex used to be a huge house that was converted. I didn't notice her when I was a kid... mostly because I didn't spend a lot of time there. It wasn't until my oldest daughter was born (and I had to move in with my grandparents for 9 months) that I discovered her.

She liked to run up and down the stairs to the attic bedroom (which used to be her room) and she -loved- babies.

I'd find my oldest playing with shoes and other objects floating over her head...

The only time I had to get involved was when the ghost decided that a long piece of organza would be fun for my 8 month old to play with. I'd already put it away (top shelf in a closet) several times... and the last time I took it away from my daughter, I turned around and said very calmly, "Sweetie, I know you like to play with my kiddo - and that's just fine -, but this is not a toy for babies and my kiddo could get hurt playing with it. Please leave the fabric alone from now on, ok?"

That was also the only time that I actually saw her instead of hearing her or seeing what she was doing. She stood by the door in an old-fashioned play suit and looked very sorry. Then she smiled at me and vanished.

Our current house has a spirit that likes to hide stuff. I think they're upset about having so many kids in the house, but they've been told not to freak the kids out or they'll have to leave. So far, so good. It's been over a year and nothing serious has happened. Just annoying disappearances of small objects that show back up when the spirit is told to put it back.

I have been told that I am a "sensitive" in that I strongly feel other people's emotions and hear things that other people don't.

Apparently, my Grandmother on my Mom's side was a "seer" and I should have the gift as well - don't like to use it at all and have pretty well blocked it. Can't actually predict anything, but feel bad stuff pretty quickly.

All I know is that I trust my instinct on people and go with my gut (now – learned to trust it quickly). Which is why I've never trusted my Dad's girlfriend

In any case - I live in a house that has been sub-divided into separate apartments. It used to be a Doctors house/office.

My DH and I live in the basement apartment - nice size, great area, will never leave it. We actually have apothecary shelves in the back room, which we call the cold room (great for storing preserves!).

However, we (only myself and my 3rd floor neighbour) can hear/feel our ghost.

She and I had never met before she moved into this place, but found out that we were actually born within 48 hours of each other at the same hospital. We freaked out when we showed each other our birth certificates!

Never went to the same schools, never met each other at all until she moved into the building 10 years after I did.

She and I have discussed the fact that only she and I can hear and feel him. We’re both Virgos, btw.

I asked my husband if he saw what I was seeing. In his true form, he said "I didn't see a thing" and went back to what he was doing.
I have heard our guy - and he is really loud and keeps telling everyone to shut up - she hears him as well, and she's 2 floors up from me, but no one in the floor in between (those tenants change ever 2 to 3 years), or my DH or her DH hears him.

He slams doors in the middle staircase hallway that don't exist (she and I can hear them slamming, but the doors don't exist anymore with the way the house was re-furbished).

She and I have discussed it, and we're okay with whoever it is - we know he can't hurt us.

He just pisses us off, because we're both insomniacs (no - it's not because of the lack of sleep we're hearing him) - but he is really mean about when he makes the noise.

It also bugs us that neither of our DHs hear him!
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

Managed to escape the jar since I saw her last night (she used Mom's computer monitor as a conduit. It's been a while since I was in my car and she resides in a little purple My Little Pony I have glued into a jam jar that I keep in the car, so she was likely checking in).

I gave my car a quick rub-down and cleaned the windows pretty good so Nana should be back in the jar tonight.

Ethan loves to hide our things and then put them back in plain sight after we had been looking everywhere for it.

Yesterday, he loudly slammed one of the doors upstairs shut when it was only Mr. Mis and myself in the house and all the windows were shut.

I have seen movement out of the corner of my eye, but when I look there is nothing there.

My little guy has seen Ethan fighting with another male spirit and freaked the heck out. It was only once though and I have no idea what that was all about.

It's a bit late to add to this, but I didn't want to type it when my hubby could read it as it makes him sad. One of his female cousins was run over and killed in our next door neighbour's driveway when they were kids. Her spirit hangs around between this house and her mother's house which was built after she died, she seems to be attached to the teddy bear she had from birth. Apparently the batteries have never been replaced, they were flat when she died but the bear randomly plays songs when her mother is feeling depressed.

We lived in this house when we were first married, but it wasn't until we made it our forever home about 3 years later that she came to me in a dream. I never knew her when she was alive, I've only seen photos of her. The dream was 2 days after we moved back in. In the dream, I answered the door and a little girl was standing there in a white and blue frilly, puffy victorian-style dress. She held her hand out for me to shake, introduced herself and told me that she wouldn't annoy us. She asked me to tell her mother that she (the mum) needs to let go because she would like to move on. She's sick of being stuck in her mum's house and she was sick of the incense her mum burns to cover the smell of pot smoke. She said she wouldn't be angry if I didn't pass the information on because she knew that her family won't listen to me anyway. Then I woke up, and we haven't had any of the weird things happen to us that have happened to other members of my hubby's family that have lived in this house.
Don't tempt pixies, it never ends well.
