They have no idea what I'm asking for CTA, ELO, BOC, or CCR.

I ask for Chicago, Boston, or Kansas and they tell m they don't sell airline tickets.

How has anyone not read A Wrinkle in Time, the first book, let alone the series? How can they not know what a tesseract is?!
Hey, it's not that difficult to have read the series and not know what a tesseract is. I didn't know until later. (4-space geometry not being a strong point of mine and all that).

But they haven't, in fact, READ the book! Not understanding what the tesseract is is one thing. Not having ever heard of it is another.

Never read it. Not sure I've ever heard of it, either. Maybe in passing, when someone mentioned it, either in person or on tv. But it doesn't really ring any bells with me. And considering I am much older than you, this is not a function of you being "old" by comparison to those who have no clue what you are talking about in relation to that particular book. Cause I got no clue, girlie.

And I should point out that I am well read and have just about always enjoyed reading, including science fiction and fantasy, which seems to encompass the book and series in question.

anyone else remember the show "Space 1999" and when it was on?????
I remember the show vaguely, but loved the toy spaceships they produced from it. Cooler than cool.

Years later I realized that two of the stars had also been stars in the original Mission: Impossible tv series. Very cool.

When I go into a music store (remember when they just sold MUSIC and any videos were concerts?) and ask for CSN or SDNY they hand me CSN:NY on DVD.

They have no idea what I'm asking for CTA, ELO, BOC, or CCR.
Okay, I'm a classic music guy, but I can't for the life of me figure out what SDNY or CTA is.

(By the way, if we're going for acronyms, you left out BTO. HOW do you leave out BTO?)

CTA is Chicago Transit Authority...later shortened to simply "Chicago," after the actual CTA threatened to sue them over the name. Never mind that the transit authority later used one of Chicago's songs without paying for it... As to SDNY, I can't say I'm familiar with that one

                • I took SDNY as a typo for CSNY - making CSN Crosby, Stills & Nash, with the other adding Young. But that's just me. I don't know of any classic rock band abbreviated SDNY.

Yes, I'm 24, but I'm an audiophile, and self proclaimed music whore. I have everything on vinyl from Avenged Sevenfold to an original pressing of Shostakovich's 11th symphony.

I've been in music stores before perusing the vinyl, and had kids walk up and ask "What are those big things?" My usual response is "Like a CD or an MP3, but better." :-P

When I left AK and moved down here, I was cleaning out my music collection. Kept all my CDs, tossed the cassette tapes, and decided to sell the LPs.

Couple others, all in damn good condition LP Vinyl. Got about $110 for 10 albums.

*rocks back and forth wishing he had a few of those albums.* Sheesh. You only got $110 for some of those? I know that Michael Jackson album is worth a fair amount...and oh how I'd love to hear it on a nice stereo.

You really make me wish I could afford a new player and stereo. I've been eying one of these: http://www.tubedepot.com/diy-ek-tu-879s.html but at $600, its far out of my price range for now. :-( </offtopic>

Now that I think about it, I also get the "Why would you use tubes when you can use transistors?" question re my guitar amp. The reason? Because my 120 watt tube amp has better tone and can put out louder volume than your 5,000 watt transistor amp, and it distorts naturally and pleasantly at high volume.

Your pansy little transistors do not.

For the younger in the group: for every 100 watts, a tube amp gets louder by 4dB. So my 120 watt amp is only 4dB louder than a 20 watt tube amp. The difference is tone. My 120 watt amp has a warmer cleaner sound compared to a 20 watt.
