My fiance and I thought we were good friends with a couple. Fiance was roommates with Chris in college, worked with Krystal, introduced them and used some contacts to help Krystal get her new job. We were both in their wedding.
Chris and Krystal and several old college friends live in Austin. We lived in the Woodlands for a year (30 miles north of the city) and last spring moved inside the city itself. Fiance and I are happy to travel to Austin to see our old friends, especially since until recently we could catch up with lots of people. We've averaged going to Austin once a month for the past year or so. Chris's family lives in a small suburb of Houston and he visits them fairly regularly (for holidays and every few months). We could understand him not visiting us when we lived in the Woodlands (totally out of the way), and we don't expect him to visit on religious holidays (Dad is a preacher), but he has yet to come see us since we moved to an apartment mere minutes from the highway he uses to come into town. We were irritated that we were putting in all the effort in the relationship but figured it was short term issues.
So Chris and Krystal finally got married recently (wedding had been all consuming for a year), Chris has a short break from his night classes (so they should have free time to see us) and they're coming to town this weekend for a wedding reception with his family. Party is 3-5 Saturday afternoon in small suburb. They were planning on coming in on Friday, and the original plan was to see fiance and I before going to Chris's parents. Apparently Krystal decided to schedule a physical therapy appointment on Friday afternoon (not her normal day apparently, and after they already had plans with us for Friday night) and they don't want to get to his parents too late, so they're skipping out on those plans. Fiance calls Chris and Chris not only wiggles out of seeing us Saturday night (the party might run late and family could want to spend all night with them) but also Sunday... because Krystal wants to get back early because she starts work on Monday (at a normal office job time, not like it's a 2 am shift or something). For those who don't know, it's a 3 hour drive between Houston and Austin, not some all day affair.
So, basically, Chris and Krystal decided to come to town to celebrate the wedding that Fiance made possible but they can't be bothered to spend a couple of hours with us because they have to get back early for Krystal's new job... which Fiance found for her. Way to repay Fiance's friendship!!
