  • a photograph of my car

This picture was taken of my car, today while I was at work, at about 4:30 PM (Pacific standard time)...

    Yeah.

    Snow.

    It's still snowing up here.

The weather report is for between 2 and 6 inches.

It was total slush when I was driving home after work, and tomorrow it's going to be slicker than snot on chrome.

WHERE is this 'spring' I keep hearing about?

British Columbia, Canada. I won't give the exact location, but I'm just about halfway between where Gravekeeper is and where GK's pink camo-wearing pants-hunting catalogue customers are calling from.

        Th-that's s-snow.

        *Stares*

        *Goes pale*

        GAH!

I've been in shorts and tanktops all winter I didn't wanna see snow!

        I feel cold now.

Which would be nice if I wasn't already covered in a sheen of sweat.

I accidentally closed my weather gadget on my computer, so I reopened it and it was set by default to New York City - 68 and sunny! But I reset it to my own town, which is about an hour away, and the sun went away!

          But still 68.

We're not getting snow but yesterday I had to turn the furnace back on because the inside temp was below 60F I am also waiting for this "Spring" I keep hearing about.

We had some colder weather last week, down to the 40s-low 50s at night - my apartment was around 60 degrees...but they have turned off the heat apparently because there was nothing coming out even though it was turned all the way up...

Normally this would be where I would gloat about how it is a gorgeous tropical paradise down here, with sunshine and temps in the 80's and hot chicks in bikinis at the pools and the beaches.

But not this time. Yes, all of the above is true, but casting a shadow over all of that is the fact that yesterday the Governor of Florida declared a state of emergency for this and several other counties due to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and its potential effect, both ecologically and economically.

As much as I hate cold, right now I would rather be where you are then where I am. This shit has the potential to do far more damage economically than any hurricane ever. (I'm trying not to even think of the potential ecological catastrophe so that I don't cry.) Worst case scenario: the Keys going from being a paradisical vacation getaway to being a string of ghost town islands stretching out from the mainland into a muck of oil-stained water and beaches.

Needless to say, I (along with everyone else down here) am hoping for the best case scenario, which is that we only see a little bit of oil down here, and the majority of it gets broken up by the chemicals they are laying down and otherwise dispersed and diluted before it gets down here, and that the economical and ecological impact is only slightly bad.

Yeah....right now snow looks pretty damn good to me.

So, today... 3 inches of snow on the ground when I woke up. Good thing I plugged my car in. (I love my interior car heater.)

I counted three trees down on the way to work, which is a about a five minute drive.

And then, after about a half hour at work... POWER OUTAGE! Half of the store was just shut off. The Boss has the store set up so that we get power from two different 'grids', so sometimes part of the store is still working. Today, lights and heavier printing equipment was off, tills and computers and copiers were running so I stayed open. (But no internet, damnit! The power went out at the local service provider!)

So, I worked at what I could. Got caught up on bookkeeping stuff, helped what few customers there were, cleaned up a bit, etc.

The power came back on a few hours ago.

And outside? The pavement is almost DRY right now. It's still chilly but the snow is almost gone.

I suppose i'd get all kinds of dirty looks for mentioning the 80-90 degree weather down here in TX? Sunny and breezy, although there may be a storm trying to roll in... not sure, but the humidity is building.

Yep, you're gonna get dirty looks. I get them all the time when I mention the killer weather here in Key West.

They don't like that sort of thing here. After all, misery may love company, but it HATES to hear about someone doing better!

                            Sunny and breezy...
and while the fans may have made it "breezy," I highly doubt anyone is going to think that you were saying it was "sunny" INSIDE that apartment.
