  • 3 Months to Convention, About to Panic

I feel kind of stupid, but please indulge my jabberings.

I've never had a table at an anime or comic convention before, so I'm trying to make a good showing, and I have a huge table, so need to fill it up. Nearly finish with my second comic (3 or 4 weeks more work), but since I just got moved to Full Time hours, and have a 40 minute commute either way, I'm finding it hard to get the time and energy to draw except on the weekend.

Now I just took stock of everything I need to finish, and it's a LOT. The con is Labor Day Weekend, and as long as I get the book finished by July 1 and the rest finished by mid-August, I should be fine, but it's just driving me crazy! Worse that I want to make postcards but can't get any inspiration for the scenes I decided to draw on them.

I'm gonna sit somewhere and cry now. Thanks.

The more you focus on the dilemma, the more your anxiety will grow and the less creativity you will have. Stop and walk around a bit. Empty your head via meditation. Do some yoga.

In the meantime, here's a chocolate chip cookie.

PS, your comic sounds like it's fun. Is your other one available to see somewhere?

I'll probably put both online after the convention. Too busy to shrink all the files and make it look pretty right now.

I literally started on #2 as soon as I finished the first. Just so I could have both for the con.

You do NOT have to fill up the table, especially if you have specific items you want to hilight. Too much stuff will make the table look cluttered and some people may avoid it. If you feel the need to fill space, get the covers of your comics printed up at Kinko's poster sized, mount them on backing board and put them on stands.

If it is Dragon*Con, I would love to visit your booth. What comic?

Not Dragon*Con, I'm afraid. That one is expensive and difficult to get a table for. I'm going to Anime Vegas, since I've been going a few years, It's local, and more affordable. May try a larger con if things go well there. If not, I'm only a short drive from home to weep.

The comic is an adaptation of E. W. Hornung's stories featuring the amateur cracksman, gentleman burglar, and really good cricket player A.J. Raffles. And his boyfriend, Bunny Manders.

Written in Victorian England, oddly enough. Very fun stories. I will get my versions online eventually.
