  • Any bloggers in the house?

I'm a writer by nature, it's one of my favourite things to do and I would love to be a professional someday. However the main reason I write is NOT to make money, but because I love to write. It's a labor of love.

I'm thinking of starting a blog if for no other reason than to keep my writing skills sharp as a ginsu and it's something I've been thinking of doing for a long time.

So I was curious if anyone else here does it and what you're experience has been like.

I write some stuff at http://jack.is/ - just whatever needs to be written at the time. I often go a while without significant updates because I don't feel compelled to write anything. It's not a literal blog, either, not with the reverse posting and whatnot, though I do have comment forms.

I can't seem to keep up a personal blog or journal to save my life. But I do post to a couple of pretty big group blogs, and that's actually a lot of fun. Sometimes it makes me want to strangle my editors, but I figure that's good practice for later in my writing career.

Yeah, I blog - I started a few years ago, when I was still in college and needed a "safe" place to vent about sucky professors, sucky administrators, my sucky college, and sucky students. (Note: "sucky" is meant to indicate that this isn't all inclusive, as I met plenty of wonderful people while I was in school. I just really needed to gripe about the ones I didn't like.)

Won't link y'all to my current blog because it reveals a bit more information than I'd like to connect to my identity here, though.

Blogging is something that you should do on a set schedule if you want to have readers. Even though I don't receive any sort of compensation (ad revenue, tip-jar proceeds, whatever) from my blog, I like having readers who'll come back regularly and leave comments. They tend to wander off when I don't stick to the schedule. Mine is every weekday, with weekends being optional.

Also, I do use comment moderation because I don't feel like picking through old entries looking for spam to delete. And because trolling isn't tolerated. Disagree with me all you want, but be nice about it and we can have an adult conversation about it.

I do some blogging but it is for a specific subject; no one wants to hear about my boring-ass life and I don't have time to chronicle it anyway. I write for an Asian pop culture blog (www.yellow-menace.com) and am one of three staffers. The posts are usually about specific things so we don't really do a lot of writing, it's more like 'Hey. look at this thing/news/video I found!' It's fun and I kind of get compensated with free stuff to review.

I have applied to be a paid blogger for a parenting site so we'll see how that goes.

Yeah, I do a fiction blog (link in my sig). I average about a thousand words a week. Sometimes I have artwork. Sometimes I do the occasional personal post about what is going on with my life, but mostly it is a serial fiction.

I have a surprising number of regulars that come every week (some of these people come every day!) .

Sometimes I post fanfic. I actually have people writing fanfic about my characters, which blows my mind.

It has been loads of fun and very rewarding.

I keep an entertainment blog. The link is in my signature as well. I post about movies, books, television whatever strikes my fancy. I've been getting some regular followers lately which is awesome. I try to post regularly when I am in the mood and have the time.

The only negative aspect of my blog are the annoying spam blogs leaving links to adult sites in my comments section on a regular basis.

Well I have started writing some posts. Some advice I read a couple of days ago suggesting building up a reserve of entries to get going with. I am, of course, being careful not to choose anything that's time sensitive.

Yeah, if you can keep several things in the can ready to go, that is immensely helpful.

Try to stick to a schedule if you can. Otherwise, people can fall out of the habit if visiting on a schedule.

i've never really considered blogging for $$$ either myself.

my own blog is simply a place for me to post whatever is on my mind, be it a rant, some news, or a dream-journal.

personally i'm a bit of a fan of livejournal because it's so popular
but i also have blogs maintained by blogger.com too*

the only downside to blogger.com however is that they no longer support FTP. i use to use them to update my webpage with news.

My blog link is in my sig.

I've been blogging for over a year and find it to be an enjoyable hobby.

Nobody is breaking a sweat in their zeal to send me money or anything like that. However, I have quite a bit of very good professional artwork on the site, so the husband suggested I start a Cafe Press storefront, which I am in the process of sorting out now. (their interface blows, by the way).

If and when that ever flies, I'll let you know how that goes.

I have two blogs. One was a political blog that I started a while ago but is now a ghost town on the Internet (mainly when I stopped really caring about politics) and a photography blog. I have a few followers on my photography blog. It's mostly pictures but I put some text when there is something interesting to go with the pictures.

I try to be fairly regular updating the photography blog but the problem is that I tend to do alot of posts when I do update.

I've got a blog. Started it back in my restaurant days. Since I no longer work T The Restaurant, it has sort of morphed into a daily life / techie blog. It's mostly filled with random thoughts and observations, with the odd rand tossed in for good measure (mix on high until smooth, and season to taste ). I'm making a real effort to post to it more regularly, and with more interisting content.

                            It is here.
