  • no air conditioning in the apartment

*not really a gripe or anything, just felt like posting about this*

Very bad timing this was......we're supposed to get into the 110 degree temps here in Phoenix, and the AC unit in my apartment went out today. It figures that this would happen on a holiday/when the office was closed, and that it would happen after dark.......when there's not a lot that can be done. (I've since left a message on the answering machine in the leasing office)

So......for the time being, my three cats and I are at my mom's house. Which I hate having to do, because they get traumatized, but since one of them was panting/acting funny, I'd rather them be here than get overheated.

We're not sure if the AC unit works here at the new house or not. It's not hooked up yet though so all we have are fans. It's not as bad here in GA, but it should not feel like it's 98F inside when it's only 68F outside

Having no AC sucks - we had to go though that last summer for several days when the temperature was in the high 90's and the humidity was even higher.

Hopefully it'll get fixed very soon.

Cats are NOT supposed to pant. I hope (s)he is doing ok!

She's doing fine.........obviously a little nervous about being in a new place, so she's not as chatty as usual. The other two cats were acting normal in my apartment, but I was worried about them as well because the other female is 14, and I knew the male was NOT going to happy being moved, but I didnt want to leave him behind.

*keeping my fingers crossed that I hear back from the leasing office this morning*

That happened to me a couple of years ago. I was in an enclosed building and the central air in my unit died, but the building air was on. It was so bad that I couldn't breathe (100% humidity) so I opened my front door and pulled air in from the hallway with a fan. After a while I went to the mall.

my cat pants when we get playing hard and hes been racing around the house, but its not for long since when he hits that stage hes like "screw it I'm tired" flop.

Well, you have an excuse. You live in Aussie Land. You think it's weird for Santa to be in snow and have a sleigh.

Last summer I was living with a friend before the house closed, he didn't have cooling in his house but "Hot" out here is slightly different then "hot" in more humid climates. We were fine then because during the morning we'd leave the front door open (the coolest part of the day) and during the day we were both at work (hottest part). Works has AC. Win-Win.

I do have a suggestion for you though, Fireheart. Over the winter I bought DataJager a Berkshire brand blanket since he wanted a blanket that we could snuggle up under while watching movies. This was the BEST $20 I ever spent, it's a "king" sized blanket that is rather thin and light but HOLY SMOKES is it WARM! If you can find one down there or online, grab that sucker and don't let go!

I bought his Berkshire blanket at Overstock.com.

wait when did phoenix have an high expected at 110? we have had a very mild weather lately i think the highest expected temp was only 105 and then it only reached 101 in phoenix while all of in outlineing towns experienced the joy of no more than 99 so far usuall around 96 weather. heck i was in phoenix on sunday (comicon) and it couldn't have been higher than 97 all day.

As a fellow Arizonan, I understand. It's also the reason I left my old apartment.
My AC went out July 1, 2008 and because the building "manager" wanted to get the best deal for the owners (while he was on vacation in CA) my AC didn't get fixed until July 8th. Outside temp was 110 plus every day.
The temp INSIDE my apartment was 135plus. And the manager actually got pissed at ME for yelling at him!

I don't know about Arizona, but in Texas if it is hot enough not having AC is considered a really serious emergency and you can actually break a lease if your AC isn't fixed within 48 hours or so.

This was according to an article on the local paper's website, the 110 degree temp was a prediction for this upcoming Saturday.

Gah it is bad enough not having A/C in my car, I don't think I could handle not having it at home. I'm glad that you are able to say with your mom in the mean time but hopefully you will be able to go home soon.
