  • Maybe you thought I wouldnt notice..?

I was in my online chat today for my World Civilizations class. Basically we have a worksheet before hand about what the chat will go over. Most people take this as an opportunity to have pre-written paragraphs (the prof perfers answers be in paragraphs) for chat that can just be pasted into the chat.

Well, I answered a question and others put their answers as well... A few seconds later i see my own answer AGAIN, only the first sentence is missing.. WTF? Its also next to someone elses name. So, long story short, she copied and pasted my own answer into the same chat and maybe though no one would see it?

This is a fast paced chat, I was kinda just confused or i would have called her out then and there via chat ( i know, not professional, but it pissed me off.) but i didnt. I stewed for a while and instead saved a chat transcript and emailed her afterwards and told her off. I also sent her a chat transcript in case she tried to deny it. I didnt email the teacher, IDK if I should though.

I know its not a big deal, but I was just PISSED!

    Amina516s answer:
University was popular for males to attend. Also People in these times were concerned with their own lives and those similar to their own. The songs, poetry stories and etc, reflected the lives of its plain citizens. Troubadors wrote about a new level of love. While plays were based on christian stories, the church grew more distant to its spiritual obligations to the people.

    Uh, hello...WTF!

Oh, you SO should have called her out on it at the time.

Sorry, in a bit of a mood.

I wish I had, but by the time I regained my senses we were on a separate question and I didnt want to disrupt the class as my many classmates like to.

I think the email was strongly worded enough that it may verbally beat her into submission.

I'd forward a message to the teacher as well. She's cheating and you know it.

And if the verbal beating doesn't work, give me her address and I'll see if a physical beating would.

            Definitely email the teacher.

Tell the teacher you just want to cya, in case this student tries to make your life difficult... you just want another witness as to what was actually said in your email.
Make a list of important things to do today.
At the top of your list, put 'eat chocolate'
Now, you'll get at least one thing done today

I emailed the prof, though I honestly think nothing will come of it. Ive sent emails before asking questions about classwork and have not received a response EVER. Lol. Luckily, they werent large issues or I would have pestered him until he answered me. He is under another professor though, who is the main point person for this course. We'll see, I guess. We only have one more week of class and im honestly not sure if Im expecting/wanting anything to come from this. It just pissed me off to see that.

It's also good to e-mail the prof in case you managed to end up with the rare one who actually enforces academic honestly rules. Nothing like getting accused of an academic offence because someone else was a jerk.

I got a response back from the girl who copied...

She says (paraphrased): Im 60 years old and I still dont know what Im doing on a computer. I didnt know I copied your answer..

So a small part of me feels like a douche (if what she said was true..it was NOT a nice email I sent), the other large part feels like shes lying. How could she not notice her answer was not her own?! If she prepped before class there would be no chance of copying and pasting things out of the actual chat as her response. Does that make sense? There was also the small matter of it being conveniently edited to look slightly different.

But, she evidently knows enough about computers to cut and paste.

Indeed. She knows enough about computers to cut and paste, and get on the class chat. How can she not know enough about computers to realize she'd copied your answer (minus the first sentence)? Sounds to me more like she's playing dumb to get out of trouble.

I can see it happening, were it not for the fact that it's such a convenient amount to copy. I've been known to copy something and forget that I wanted what I had on the clipboard. But she should have had your entire answer in that case. And she should have NOTICED that the answer she pasted into the chat wasn't her answer.

I'm saying this as a teacher (well, TA) - Stop any and all communication with this student. Report it to the professor. If they don't get back to you within 24 hours, bump up to the department chair, then dean, etc. But don't stay in contact with that student - let the teacher handle it. That's their job. If they won't do their job, then take up the chain of command. It reeks of academic misconduct.

That is a huge steaming pile of horse shit. Pure, unadulterated, 100%, grade A, first class horse shit.

It would be one thing if here comment was similar to yours, but worded differently. Two minds thinking alike, or her copying you but making an effort to make it look different....that could be argued. But it is word for word the same fucking thing as yours. There are only two possible reasons for this: 1. she's a fucking liar, and copied you. 2. She is the dumbest person on the face of the earth, and copied you without realizing it. I think the first one is far more likely, don't you?

Somewhere out there, there is a pasture with a bunch of horse shit in it, and that bunch of horse shit is looking at what this woman said and saying, "Now THAT'S some horse shit!"
