It does seem inconsiderate to plan a wedding in a location that it would cost so much for your family to attend.

There are several reason it might have been done that way. He might not have realized it would be so expensive, he might not have thought about the travel involved for his family, and, especially if he's been rich all his life, he might not have realized that it would be such a financial burden.

I hate weddings....if I get married, it'll be on a mountaintop and people can hike or take the train up. Or, knowing my family, I'll just elope....

My cousin's wedding was a bit pricey and I was a bridesmaid, the dress was expensive (and who can wear that crap again??) Thankfully my aunt paid for our hair, but still my wallet was hurting. OH well. NOw I have a friend getting hitched, but I know she will be reasonable

If you want and can do the big ol' wedding, go for it!! HAve fun, remember and treasure it, just be understanding if not all guests can afford it.

EDIT: OT, but can one train cats to be ring bearers? (not my cats, but if Marty is available.....ohh!! I can have my gifts be donations to the observatory!! Hmm....oh wait...I need to be engaged first)
