  • Mmmm, delicious food...

Hubby and I had a bunch of our friends over for dinner tonight. First time we've had a dinner party since we moved into the new house, and it was a blast! I made beef roast, pork roast, roasted carrots, mashed potatoes, gravy, creamed corn, lemon poppy seed bread, and apple and cherry cobbler. Mmmm sooo good. Everyone loved the food. Only drawback was that since it's a week night no one could stay past 9:30. Next time (oh yes, there will be a next time...Maggie enjoys making delicious food) we'll plan for a Friday night so we can hang out and watch movies or play card games after.

My friend Ash invited me to dinner. I met his wife that looks like a model, his two sons. He also wants me train me to fight once I'm healed from my hip, seeing as he was a karate trainer back in Egypt.

He also had like, three other friends over. They tried to talk to me as much as possible, but their grasp on english was low. I still had alot of fun. I rarely eat as it is, let alone eat with others, let alone eat at a table with people that prayed.

It was joked alot to me that I need to eat everything, as it was their culture to kill someone that didn't eat everything. It was also joked that I had to pay this huge bill. I often countered that another person said he'd pay. Lots of laughs. Lots of fun.

One guy begged me to help him get a job. I learned he already had four jobs (all part time, like a day or two a week). I said I'll do what I can...

        Food was GREAT.

Big pile of this rice... with spices or something in it. Not white or brown, or with vegatables or anything.
These tomato slices that had a spice to it.
Roasted chicken. Very dry on outside, but incredibly juicy and tender on inside.
This beef that was so soft you could cut with a plastic fork, mixed with potatos.
This round flat bread that had some kind of green sauce to dip it in.
This ice could fruit type drink. Had I think mango, or something on bottom of it, strawberry on top, with banana slices in it.

The adults all played keep away with a plastic ball with the kids who were laughing and laughing and have having so much fun. I learned that

Bes... Bhes... or Bas... (Something like that) means Stop, or enough in their langage.

They taught me alot more about God and Jesus. (they know I don't belive in God, and if he does exist I really hate him).

I taught them about North Sentinal Island, and the sons about Pluto and space.

... It was a great time. I've been invited. Any time I want. Doesn't matter. Ash really likes me alot, and thinks I'm a great friend and really wished I could work for him.

(though I was talking to my Aunt last week and she said "don't come in the summer!")

Yeah, Houston is killer in the summer. San Antonio can get pretty bad heat-wise (last year we had like 55 straight days of 100+ degree weather) but we don't get the humidity as bad as Houston. Houston gets the heat AND the humidity. Personally I think about March-May and October-November are lovely! Even "winter" here isn't bad, it does get down in the 40s and sometimes 30s but I think there were only a couple days last winter where it got below 30 and that was only in the early morning.

I'm in Houston!! Come see ME!!

I'll feed you!! The last time I had a friend over for the night we had a complete girls night, and I cooked. A lot. 3 loaves of homemade french bread, bruschetta to go on said bread, homemade veggie lasagna florentine (with garlic bread from aforementioned french bread), plus mini cheesecakes. Following morning was homemade french toast (again, from aforementioned french bread) and bacon.

              So...any takers...?

(Ok, so the humidity DOES suck, but a/c is your friend...)

I thought I was the only one with that plan!

You know...somehow get a couple million, and just start travelling, and say hi to all the CSers I can meet along the way. Portland's on MY list, too. You told me it was a foodie town, and you're gonna show me all the good spots, right?

Urg, bedtime, though! Haveta open the store tomorrow, as the original manager's car decided to die on her this afternoon. Yippeeeeee.

Lupo, we should get together sometime and have a cooking party! It would be awesome! I just have to figure out how to get to Houston...we only have one vehicle and my husband needs it to get to work so I normally don't have a mode of transportation.

I'll totally attend a cooking party. I'll bring dessert, since I'm much better at baking than I am at cooking.

                            sign me up!

erm...I has no transportation, though, so....yeah...I'm not carrying crockery on METRO. Tried it once. Awkward!

I"m in austin! I say we meet up @ Maggie's if she's in SA, as its about 1/2 way in between - and that way she doesn't have to drive...

Bout 3 years ago I hosted a dinner party, the menu as i remember it follows:

Chicken in rosemary/red wine vinegar/raspberry (syrup) marinade - it turned HOT PINK - kabobs

Pork with some tropical rum, raisins, fresh pineapple, cloves, garlic, 'kabobs

Beef in tequlia, with bell peppers and onion kabobs

rosemary and garlic pan roasted new potatoes

asparagus spears wrapped in bacon and cooked w/ garlic and roemary

corn on the cob (done on the stove)

shrimp - kabobs (it almost got forgotten about)

                              spinach-artichoke dip

                              3 compound butters - a honey/cinnamon, an herb, and a garlic

and for dessert we had little waffle bowls and fresh berries - strawberries, blue berries, raspberries, currants, grapes, blackberries, and pineapple, with whipped cream and fresh mint

and something tells me I'm forgetting something - but i couldn't remember every thing the next morning, much less 3 yrs later.
