  • Mom's in the hospital

My brother just called me and told me that Mom is in the hospital to get her gall bladder removed. I can't be by her side as she's in Arizona and I'm in Oregon.

I know little about gall bladder problems except that they hurt like crazy. I'm hoping and praying for a speedy and thorough recovery.

My boss's wife had hers removed recently (just weeks after having a C-Section!). She's fine. They'll probably do it laparoscopically, which is just 4 small incisions (though she said it was more painful than the c-section because it was spread around her abdomen rather than just in one spot). But she was in the hospital a few days and then home (with instructions to lift nothing but the baby).

My cousin's now-18-year-old son had his out when he was 10. He doesn't seem to miss it.

Hugs and a speedy recovery to mom!

My sister had hers out by means of the laproscopy, too. MUCH less painful than the old days. She needs to stay away from certain foods now, but is greatly improved.

      Best wishes for your Mom.

I am so sorry. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. (Said from the person who has had one parent die and the other going strong - sort of - at 89.)

Given the amount of pain gall bladder problems can cause, I'm sure she'll be much happier without it.
I had mine removed a few years ago laproscopically with no problems.
I decided I'd rather give birth naturally to a 30 pound baby than have the gall bladder pain

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery

They can be painful but gall bladder removals are quite common now so she shouldn't have any long term side effects.

Good luck to her and a speedy recovery.

Well, the operation went fine, but they discovered she has a UTI with a blockage, and will bring in a specialist tomorrow. I hope they can fix this and nothing else is wrong.

My brother and his wife will be taking care of her afterwards. I hope they're okay, as well. If I'm stressed out, I can imagine what they're going through.
