Huh? I wasn't treating you like you're stupid. But the way you said what you said made it SOUND very much like you were against the Germans winning, and towards that end, you were rooting for Holland. Who, of course, will not be playing Germany. So it sounded like you were rooting for Holland to beat Germany. Which, naturally, can't happen now.

Another thing people could have read into it was that since Germany beat England, you were rooting for Holland to win it all since THEY beat Germany....which, of course, they didn't.

Look, I never said you were stupid, nor did I think it, nor did I mean to imply it. I DID think that perhaps you did not know the results of the Spain-Germany match, or that you had been misinformed of it, or some other such thing. But I was merely reacting to what you posted. Go re-read what you posted and ask yourself, if someone else had posted that, what would YOU think? It really does read like you thought Germany had beaten Spain and would be facing Holland.

In any case, England may or may not have been robbed of that game vs. Germany. That is up for debate. What is clearly NOT up for debate is that they got robbed of the tying goal. That was one of many, many horrible referee calls in the World Cup, and due to the mess they have made, it was kind of nice to see that in the Spain-Germany game, there were no such horrible calls by the guys with the whistles.

I used date a Dutchman...he was an ass, and had some quirks. He hated Germans (so stupid) and flinched whenever anyone said "Holland" instead on Netherlands.

I think Holland sounds less threatening.

Sorry, that side tracking....so here is another side track. Not only have I learned to love soccer....I also just learned Spain's National Anthem has no official lyrics!

For those wondering why I am rooting for Spain.....

My country, the U.S., was eliminated.

The country I drew in my World Cup pool, Ghana, was eliminated.

The countries my ancestors hail from, Poland, Romania, and Belarus, were not in the tournament.

The greatest love of my life, The Brit, was half Spanish (her father was from Spain) and has a Spanish name.

While I have lots of friends with German roots, and even some with Dutch roots, I have never been involved with either a German or a Dutch girl. I did once hook up briefly with an absolutely stunning Uruguayan girl, but while she was awesome, I was never engaged to her, never made love to her, and was never IN love with her.

So, yeah. The team I chose to root for in the biggest tournament in a sport I really don't care too much about I chose because of my ex from seven years ago. Don't like it? Sue me.

Besides, "VAMOS ESPANA!!!" sounds great! (And outside of English, I know more Spanish than any other language. And oh yeah...I love Spanish red wine.)

It won't be a final that will live long in the memory but they were the better team. I wasn't impressed with the Dutch at all as they spent half the game kicking the Spanish players all over the pitch.

The Spaniards spent the entire game hitting dirt after barely being bumped. I thought the refs were going to cut down on the diving this year.

Jester, I know right now you're celebrating Spain's victory. I saw a good portion of the game while I was on lunch break, I have to say though that it was the first time I've seen Holland get so physical in a game and rack up so many fouls,yellow cards and a red. *sigh* Oh well, we've got the 2014 World Cup to try again.It sucks that Holland lost but I'm happy that they made it to the finals.
