I've been known to send the link to snopes.com too. I think it may have been successful the last time - haven't been warned about the kidney-robbers in some time.
Hee. I remember when the 'kidney robbers' things were forwarded via fax.

I'm really showing my age now. Back in the early 90s, forwarding jokes via fax was the 'in' thing.

Ahhh, I remember fondly the days of the Goodtimes Virus. Just opening your email would format your hard drive, infect your memory, motherboard, and refrigerator if you opened the email.

This was back before Microsoft decided to make email interactive by allowing stupid shit like HTML and scripts that could be executed.

I too did the Snopes thing to both my mother and older sister. Mom eventually started asking me if something was true or not before forwarding it to all her friends. They never were. My older sister finally started searching Snopes herself and responding the same way.

I had a cw who started having a class 1 freakout recently when he checked his hotmail and read an offical looking email from 'Microsoft' which said they were going to start billing $0.25 for every message sent over msn. I laughed my ass off and mentioned getting those for icq 15 years ago.

The best part was that the sender's email was something like "BillGattes19426@YAHOO.com"
