Apparently so. I want to see the third movie, and an aquaintence of mine reckons that that's funny, cuz the Toy Story movies are "kids' movies", exclusively for kids only. -.- Strange that, seeing as when I saw both the first and second movies in cinema, there were NO kids there at all. I was fifteen when I saw the first one... jeez, that makes me feel old. O_o Anyway, there are far too many instances of GettingCrapPastTheRadar and adult jokes in both movies that I've seen for them to be exclusively for kids. What does everyone else think?

The plot for the first centers around dealing with abandonment issues and how depression can destroy a person (figuratively for Woody, literally for Buzz).
The second centers around 'toy death' for lack of a better way to put it. What happens to the toys that aren't important enough to be loved? They end up in a museum, to be tortured with kids who they 'could' play with only able to stare at them through eternity.
The third? Spoilers for those who haven't seen it, but, how they just accept their fate is incredibly beautiful and ever so sad. And the ending, oh my gods. PM me if you want my interpretation of the meaning behind that scene. I won't post it here, as it is ever so spoilery.
Pixar has always been good at getting crap past the radar.
Of course, good kid's television can still touch the hearts of adults. Take the Muppets, as a f'rinstance. When did they not have a naughty joke that flew over the heads of youngsters? As a massive proof of how high these jokes can fly? Mahna Mahna was originally a song in a Swedish porno. Look at what it became.
Kid's movies? On the surface. But if you dig even a layer of the topsoil away, you'll find a movie and message for the adults, struggling to find their inner child."I call murder on that!"

thought Pixar did the "past the radar" so that it could be a family movie as in not JUST for kids but the adults could watch and still be amused as well. IE meant for kids but welcome to all audiences. For those who saw all three did you get any of the easter eggs? Pixar likes to put references to previous movies in the background.
one good one, the gay Al called in the second movie to "repair" woody is the chess guy from one of pixar's shorts. and as a clue to this if you slow down the dvd. (pause it and play in slow-mo) when he opens the drawers one of them has chess pieces in there. and another, his eyes are not the same color, one is a different color than the other. (yes the man playing chess' eyes were a different color and the one in the movie's was different but when he puts his glasses on to paint or repair one eyeball color is different)

I'm going to have to agree that they're family movies. They're like Bugs Bunny - kids think that they're for kids, because they're funny movies. Parents are willing to watch them, because they're actually entertaining even if you're not a kid.

I thought the third Toy Story was a bit intense for real young kids. There are some scenes that might scare them. But it's a great movie for the whole family. I love the Toy Story movies. And these so-called kids movies keep getting better the older I get.

toy story movies deal with very adult things too the third one besides being happy with your fate it also about knowing when its time to move on even you still love someone and the joy and pains of growing up and moving on with your life.
you could use it to explain divorce death or seperation.

I think most if not all of the Pixar movies have deeper layers that go right over most kids' heads. Much like Looney Tunes and such...watching them as an adult is a much different experience than when I was a kid. Not to mention the nostalgia factor of all the toys we grew up with.

I was under the impression that Pixar/Dreamworks movies had stuff to appeal to both adults and kids. Kids will enjoy the storyline and the comedic moments, the adults will laugh and they can also laugh at any parodies or jokes that sail right over the kids heads.

Mainly meant for kids as far as I know. But they make it so it has themes only adults will really pick up on so adults get something from it too."I've found that when you want to know the truth about someone, that someone is probably the last person you should ask." - House

come one. most of the supposed "kids" stuff including old old old cartoons have "adult stuff" written into them that only the (relatively speaking say around 15 or so) older person will (start to) get. gotta keep the adults interested in the story so why not put in some "hidden, over the kids heads" type of stuff.
watch the short "film" sequence at the beginning of the ending credits esp what Jessie says about Buzz. really telling and funny.
I loved the last 15 minutes of Toy Story 3, the danger, the uncertain fate, the tears, the one last bright youthful moment in the sun. I already know what the ending means as I experienced that 30 some-odd years ago. in a way a lot of us lived the last 5 or 6 minutes.I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.
