I just got the Samsung Galaxy S on Friday, been playing with it all weekend. This is a major upgrade for me, as I was on the G1. To describe the difference, allow me to provide a few specs.

    The G1 has Android 1.6, a 3.2inch screen, 320x480 resolution, 528MHz CPU, 192MB RAM, 256MB internal storage space, and a 3.2MP camera.

    The Galaxy S has Android 2.1, a 4inch screen, 800x480 resolution, 1GHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 16GB internal storage space, and a 5MP camera.

In other words, this is a night and day type of difference. The new phone is positively gorgeous. Speed is through the roof. I am very much liking this new phone.

If you're interested in it, all four major carriers in the US will have a version of the phone (or already do). The Samsung Galaxy S either is or will be available soon on T-Mobile as the Samsung Vibrant, AT&T as the Samsung Captivate, Verizon as the Samsung Fascinate, and Sprint as the Epic 4G.

If you're in the market for a new phone, you would do yourself a favor by checking it out. Even if you don't get it, it's worth knowing why you don't want it. As for me, oh yeah did I want it. And I am liking this phone.

My husband would like to thank you for your recommendation. He, too, was looking to upgrade from the G1. Just got the Vibrant the other night and he's in love with it.

Made his friend (who's Droid X is back ordered for 2 weeks) quite jealous

        That's a very expensive phone.

It really is a great phone. From what I can tell from my own research, the only other phone on the market right now that's at the same level is the Droid X. Since I won't do business with Verizon, I'm okay with not having it

Yes, yes it was. My goal, though, was to get a phone that would last. I only kept the G1 for just over a year. I want this one to last at least two, and would prefer three or four. So, the only thing I could really do was head for the top of the market.

On the plus side, though, I really did get a great phone. Here's a pic I took yesterday from the phone. Considering that's from a cell phone camera, I'm pretty pleased.

I think that this phone will fill a picture need nicely. I've got a nice DSLR setup, but it's bulky (because it's a DSLR). I don't want to have to take it everywhere, but I want to be able to snap pictures like that one. This phone stays in my pocket, so fills the "quick picture" need, in addition to everything else.

I'm not so sure I recommend buying from them at this point, but Popular Electronics at least has the selection to look at for unlocked phones. As to why I'm not sure: I bought my phone from them, and it was a decent experience. Took a day longer than I think it should have, but that's not a deal breaker. Coworker bought the same phone, from them after seeing mine, and his experience was not so great. I really don't know if I recommend buying, but browsing? Check them out, definitely.
