So today in school today, I attempted to stop an evelator door from closing so that someone can get on as he was racing to get in.

I've done it a dozen times. Everyone has in the building. The elevators are OLD, to the point where the buttons are real buttons, that you have to push in, like togs...? Like you could bite them off with your teeth... Best way to explain them.

Anyway, I was trying to stop the door, but door was closing to fast, so I tried to retract my hand. Got most of it out. Except my pinky.

Ow. Teacher let me wait a few minutes during class to run ice cold water around it. It's swollen pretty bad right now. Not broke, slight brusing. It'll heal in a few days, but still.

After class I told teachers, told dean, had to help write out some incident report.

    Still.

I hope you heal as painlessly as possible.

Next time... wave your books or folder instead of your hand. More surface space for the laser/motion detector/whatever to see.

I actually had an elevator door almost shut on my whole body (but that's because the elevator was faulty)... so now I almost always carry at least a piece of paper that I lead with. I get strange looks waving a piece of paper going in and out of elevators, but at least I no longer almost get squooshed.
Make a list of important things to do today.
At the top of your list, put 'eat chocolate'
Now, you'll get at least one thing done today

Actually if it's old it's probably a mechanical sensor - you know the doors that have a little flange that retracts into the door? That's a sensor, and it won't stop until you hit it. I agree use books, but make sure that they're across the entire door, and place them right next to the door - they may very well not stop until they actually hit the books. (Putting your pinky at the edge of the door won't help, because you might miss the sensor, even if it's a light one).
