  • my fiance hates me because of you Leo (slight Shutter Island and Inception spoilers)

Okay, seriously Leo D... this is now the second movie in a row that you've made where the ending is ambiguous.
First with Shutter Island you left us wondering whether or not you were actually insane or a victim of a conspiracy (or both).
Now we have inception where you leave us hanging on whether or not you made it out of Limbo the second time (or for that matter the first time, because you projection of you wife brings up the possibility that your subconscious made up everything we just saw on the screen).
Are you choosing these movies that torment us intentionally, is this like some sick joke you like playing on the audience? I mean, I love your movies, but please, plant the idea (you're good at that, just watch your movie ) that it would not kill them to show your totem falling over. Now my fiance and I will spend the next week debating it.

Though on that note, for those who have seen it, what do y'all think, did he make it out of limbo?

I personally am leaning towards that he never got out. Everything went a little bit too perfectly after he "woke up"... and most importantly, he turned and looked at his kids before he waited to see if his totem was real. I think that might be a sign that deep down, he knew that it wasn't really, but didn't want it confirmed.

I think the ending of shutter island made it pretty clear-

    spoiler here(highlight to read):
"would you rather die a good man or live as a monster?"
Since he was told if his "delusion" continued the only option was a lobotomy-in effect "killing him"-he chose to "continue" his delusion and die a good man as he couldn't deal with the death of his children being his fault-at the end he was being taken away for his lobotomy-he went willingly-he was sane at the end, but didn't want to remember.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

BlaqueCat, you make a good point about the whole continuing the delusion to die a good man,but on the other hand *warning Inception spoiler, highlight to read* it is very easy to plant an idea into a person's head and have it grow over time... all it took to make Mal kill herself and frame her husband in an attempt to kill himself as well was a spinning top.
So really, it wouldn't be that hard, given enough time and with the proper pharmaceuticals to plant the seed that what you think is real isn't. We even see it on nationwide scales (granted over longer time periods)... Hitler mastered that art, he planted the seed that Germany was in trouble and it was the Jews who were to blame, and only he could save Germany, slowly (though in terms of national politics, it was amazingly fast) that idea turned into the Third Reich.

Errr I slept throughout most of both.

And I'm done with Leo as long as he continues to be in these mindfuck movies. Let's see.....5 hours of my life lost. I should have known better than to see Inception. Go figure, movies I hate get high ratings.

Maybe it's the shift I work and I'm too tired to go to the movies, but I doubt it. I simply cannot play the game where the plot keeps changing and going all over the place, what is going on!?!?!!? and the ending is pretty much up to you.

Haven't seen Shutter Island (have to now) but just saw Inception.

That was a better mindfuck than the Matrix.

Personally, I think it doesn't matter either way. He'd killed Mal. Any possibility of the alternative being his world was gone. Being with his kids was the end goal. So he made his choice and stuck with it.

However, I think even more telling than the top was the kids themselves. Aging anybody?
