I work in computers, last thing I want to do is go home and read off one, when I already game now and then on a PC aswell. This is my personal opinion ofcourse

I've gotten back into the Wheel of Time again, woo Perrin!
I'm re-reading the Horus Heresy series for the third time, and I finished Power of One the other month, had that book for like ten years.

They can pry my books away from my cold dead fingers. *cuddles volumes protectively*

The day when there is a glitch/virus that wipes out e-books I will gaze upon my dead tree collection and smile. Not that I have a problem with e-books per se, I just don't trust the system.

Hyu hev a nifty het, Geek King!

Anyway, I still buy the occasional paperback if there's something that catches my eye. The last book that I bought was Eclipse Phase from Posthuman Studios.

Yep, and eBook readers are useless if they have no electricity, too.

I'm with the sentiment of you'll get my books from me when I'm dead.

            Although I also want a nook...is shiny.

Maybe when e-readers are common, cheap, and as smooth an experience as a paper book, I'll get one. I like being able to use the physical properties of the book, such as flipping through pages, dog-earing to mark pages, etc. I also can't take an e-reader to the bath unless they make a waterproof one. They also don't bear loving stains* so well as paper does. For now I'll just keep a paperback in my pocket.

I also work on computers (using a computer) so I usually don't care to deal with any technology just to read a book.

*Some feel that to show care for your books you should keep them immaculate. I counter that any book without its fair share of bathwater and food stains is not loved.

I like my dead tree books. But I wouldn't mind an e-reader of some kind. I like the idea of being able to carry the equivalent of only one book, but having enough reading for a week with me.

I have a pretty large library, and I guarantee the vast majority of it isn't available on e-readers. (It's all theatre history, theory, play anthologies, and single scripts.)

I care. I like my books.
Oh, I like my books too. Hell, my living room is quite literally a library, with six bookcases and close to 500 books.

I was just saying that I can see the appeal of an e-reade, and if it comes down to e-books or no books, I'll opt for e-books.

While I don't have an e-reader, I can see some of the benefits:

                      One e-reader, hundreds of books.
Finish one book, go to the next....and you don't have to go home, to the library, or to the bookstore to do it.
                      Save trees.
Easier to read an e-reader while eating than it is to read a book and turn pages while eating. I like to read while I eat. This one is a major selling point to me.
Bookmarks don't fall out of e-readers.

Yes, I can see the downside of e-readers too, just pointing out the positives. Books are still books, no matter the form. The important part of them is the reading.

They give off one loud beep, giving you 5 seconds to take a deep breath and run out before they shoot out a powder than sucks the oxygen out of the room, thus killing the flame without water damaging the books.

I bought a book of paper once.
All the pages had dirt on them.
The store wouldn't give me a refund.

Oh, I agree with you, Jester. Heck, I work for the "nookstore." I can defiintely see the up side (not that selling 'em will get me a raise or anything). Personally, I can't justify the expense. Though ebooks are certainly cheaper than paper ones.

I do have the B&N e-reader application on my computer, but I haven't bought any ebooks to go with it (other than the freebies that came with it). I'm not crazy about reading on there. I read tons online, and I spend all day staring at a computer, so if I'm going to sit down with an actual book, I'd rather it not have a screen.

I have three 5-shelf bookcases in my living room, plus two shelves above my desk in my bedroom. Plus my nightstand is a small bookcase and the bottom shelf is full. Plus possibly some in boxes at my parents' house. Couldn't tell you how many books I have, though. I keep meaning to do an inventory but I haven't gotten around to it.
