  • A wine for whiskey

    I'm going to put in an order (for pick up) for some wine. It's been a while since I've indulged in wine. Usually its Crown Royal Black (A++ compared to regular CR) or Blue Moon (non-seasonal) if I'm in a beer mood. Today is a wine day. So recommend me a wine! I'm all for bubbly, but its not a requirement. I should just go to a wine tasting, but I'm incredibly lazy. Hell I'm ordering my hooch booze decadent, 88 point wine online.

    Low ball good wine is Yellow Tail Sparkling White

    Cheap tasty wine is Andre Brut

    I've never really gone above low ball. I don't want to pay a good amount of money for a wine I don't like. I'm all for aroma, food pairings, etc. but I just want some "sit on the balcony in the summer evening" wine. It doesn't have to be cheap, but cheap isn't bad.

    Astoria Prosecco (sells for $11.99 in my store, I've seen it as low as $9.50)
    Cristalino Cava (sells for ~$10-11)

    If you really want something cheap, look for Indaba. It blows Yellowtail out of the water, and is about the same price. They don't have a sparkling, though.

        I forgot to look for this. I'm trying a red tonight. I hate red, but the guy at the shop is a retired professional in the wine field and said I'd probably like it. Im not in there often, but he still remembers me

          Since Pink truck was mentioned.

          Red truck and white truck are nice. The bottles rock too.
          There is also Green truck but it hasn't been tested yet. Next time.
          I normally pick up bottles for my parents for special occasions.

            A good wine retailer remembers the customers that challenge them to find different wines. My favourite customer refuses to spend more than $12/btl, HATES dry red wine with a PASSION, and demands something good.

            I always find her something she likes. Even snuck a couple of dry wines in there, last time

              I didn't even mention a bottle price (although he showed me some "expensive" wine glasses that were 10$/glass and I told him that wasnt expensive. It is a low budget store with a low budget crowd so 10/glass usually would be expensive). i just said I've probably drank shitty red wine, its always incredibly dry and bitter, and if theres a decent red I'd be willing to try it. Now i have to go pull it from the fridge. Please hold

              <lovely music plays>

              Riunite Lambrusco. It was like $5/bottle. He said it mixes really well with white sparkling wine. I expressed my concern, as Ive mixed red and white with terrible consequence but he said I should be okay. He said its super delicious and as my tastes develop, i'll probably go for less sweet wines.

              ILU WINE GUY.

              He remembered me because of the Yellow Tail But he'd only seen me once. I told him I'd come back next check and see about getting a couple bottles. He also said if I get a wine I don't like (because i'm a big sissy and dont want to pay 20+$ for a bottle i end up hating) I can just recork it, bring it back and get my money back/something else. This man has my undying business. I don't know why he works for Giant Liquor Retailer that has less more and more beverages.

              edit: wine guy's sc story;

              he said some guy called up, said his wine was awful and wanted a refund. The guy came to the store and the bottle was empty. SC said he poured it out because it was SO TERRIBLE. Fine, whatever, they give him a refund. He turns around and buys the same bottle of wine and leaves.

              I'm going to edit this post until the end of time. The best blush/dessert wine i've ever had was some random, on sale pink bottle of wine at Big Lots. I dont even know. It was like 3$ a bottle with great flavor.

                    I had a whole post here about sweet wines, dry wines, Beaujolais, and what people should look for.

                    Then my browser ate it.

                    I may recreate it later, but for now I'm gonna go get my coffee and throw a bit of a temper tantrum.

                        Thanks for the link!! I checked it out, and they look good. I was thinking the wine was ACTUALLY green, but I guess its green b/c its organic... LMAO.

                        I'll try to find it locally, if not I'll see if they ship to PA. Thanks.

                            Don't assume that. All states are different in their direct shipping laws, and PA has some of the most strict.
