If I was in PA as I am right now, I have no idea. Probably find the nearest military base, flash my ID, and find someone to give me a gun.
If I'm back home in Jersey, I'd be tempted to go to the military base I work at there. It's a mostly civilian base so I'm not sure how worth it, it would be. Sandy Hook is nearby, which is a little peninsula near me, wouldn't be too bad a place to hold out with others. We'd be able to fish for food so that's covered. Just not sure about weapons."I've found that when you want to know the truth about someone, that someone is probably the last person you should ask." - House

Will a 47' trimaran work or should I go hijack that 95' cruiser I creamed my shorts over?Quoth Whiskey View PostI have six months, a year if I eat sparingly, worth of food in my closet. Whos gotta boat!?
Shove rock-gut whiskey into the diesel and run like hell.Quoth Whiskey View Postbut what about pirates :afraid:
And fly a YELLOW flag. Means the ship has a deadly, contagious, disease running through the crew. Now a member of that alien race called Management.
Yeah, you see that right. Pink. Harness.

Find an old castle, with moat and drawbridge. Stock it. Build several hothouses, start gardens. Add other needed things (including weapons/ammo). Place man eating sea creatures in moat (if any have a particular fondness for dead flesh, even better). You will also need emergency vats of hydrochloric acid that you can pour down on any of the undead that make it past the moat. Don't care how resistant to damage they are, puddle of ooze=not a threat now.
Good stock of medicines (cause OTHER diseases will pop up as bodies pile up with nobody to bury them). Good sharp weapons, and FULL chainmail armor (or full riot gear) (full plate offers more protection, but dang it is hard to move in that). Riot helmets.
Way of emptying moat, and filling it back up quickly. (to get rid of dead bodies, zombie fish, etc). Years and years supply of insect repellents, and vermin repellents (they WILL carry diseases..like say Zombieism).
For weapons, things that go BOOM or do not use ammo > anything else. Hacking off a limb will do nothing..said limbs being in millions of pieces and scattered yards apart is a little better.
Include dead man switches + very small explosives on the neck area (about 1-2 oz) of people. Heart stops, there goes the head.
All this if possible on a small island. Bonus if you can find one in the arctic circle or around Antarctica. *ponders cost to build such a thing, and buying small island*.
All this will not be needed however. Cause you know some idiot is gonna panic, launch a nuke..and then there won't be enough of anything to scrape up with a squeegy as everybody retaliates.Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

yeah but according to zombie movies a base isn't a guarantee you either get run over real quick because the medics try to save the guys, turn into a psycho dictatorship, wind up dying because someone wants to study the zombies, or just either get spread to thin or are caught unaware.Quoth Greenday View PostIf I was in PA as I am right now, I have no idea. Agreed. I tend to think you should just stay away from anyplace occupied by the military, police, scientists, or otherwise related people. It tends to make for bad endings. I also think that while there is strength in numbers, a small band is better for the initial survival stretch, after that picking up stragglers to add to your numbers is good.Quoth Sliceanddice View Postyeah but according to zombie movies a base isn't a guarantee you either get run over real quick because the medics try to save the guys, turn into a psycho dictatorship, wind up dying because someone wants to study the zombies, or just either get spread to thin or are caught unaware."I'm not smiling because I'm happy. Personally, I would not trust any civilian pleasure craft for survival. You get some floaters, they can get to the ladder or whatever and get on board. What you want is something where access to the deck is limited to a ramp when in port, or a skiff/runabout when not moored.
As far as flying a flag, it will only matter if the other vessel has experienced maritime crew. A bunch of yokels who swiped a boat to get away won't know the difference between flying a flag as a warning or hanging the laundry to dry.
Everything considered, I really wouldn't go deep sea, or even international water distance. Supplies are on land, so unless you REALLY like fish for dinner, stay where you can make carefully planned grocery runs.
As far as land-based physical security, thinking back to all the zombie movies I have seen, a schoolyard with a gated, fenced in playground would work in a pinch. Never have seen zombies climb chain link.Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

Its been a while, but after a discussion I had in a game chat yesterday, I have to share the inspiration: Sharkbite Suits.
Even runner zombies are only operating at bite and scratch level mentally, and those suits can stop a freaking shark from killing you. With proper protection for your hands, feet, and head/neck, you will basically be zombie-proof in all but extreme situations.Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.

I just realized I am pretty much dead in a zombie situation.
I can't run worth shit because of my foot problems. I'm still in school--and that for psychology, so I have no useful long-term skills, unless you want your brain shrunk--which might be preferable to having it eaten, but still. I may or may not be a good shot--I have shot a rifle before, and could probably figure out a handgun ok enough to shoot it. I don't have world-class aim, but I can definitely hit the broad side of a barn.
I do think somewhere in ID might be a good place to hole up, though.
Particularly up in the mountains. Where it gets fucking cold. Or perhaps Montana. Make it as defensible as possible.
Heh, now I keep thinking of the Zombie Survival Guide..."And so all the night-tide, I lie down by the side of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride!"

I'm well aware of my lack of many skills and will probably die quite early on in the Zombie Apocalypse and I have kind of made my peace with it. My fella is also under strict instructions to leave me behind should Z day occur.
He has a very detailed plan which includes where to hold up. He is a LARPer and has plenty of metal armour, including chain mail which would protect his neck. He is also strong enough to run for ages and fight whilst wearing full armour. I have every confidence he will survive a very long time

Yeah, we have enough problems here, although my sister would be thrilled at the prospect (Jersey Shore, not zombies).Quoth AdminAssistant View PostWe don't need any of that in Kansas, tyvm. Although, they wouldn't have much work to do in Johnson County, now that I think about it.
Also, not only do I have a zombie plan, I have this. But honestly, my actual plan didn't even require much thought because of where I work. The prison could EASiLY be made into a fortress. If the zombies could climb (some can and some can't it would depend on which lore real undead would adhere to), they'd be shredded trying to get over the perimeter fence once they got to the multiple layers of razor wire. Even in the event that the fence was penetrated, the walls of the cellhouses are solid concrete and the doors are metal and very heavy. All the windows are very thick, except for the ones in the General Population houses, but those have iron mesh over them on the inside. There is a fully-stocked armory with plenty of guns and ammunition, a kitchen full of canned goods, a dining hall, a gym for recreation (the ones that are just glass take a HELL of an impact to break), control rooms with gun-ports in the windows to welcome any starving undead who do manage to wander in, 5 impenetrable guard towers (only drawback is 4 of them our outside the fence if you needed them but there are enough guns to get there safely), and once the power goes out, escape hatches to the roof in all buildings, and keys to access any door you need to get in or out of. Dealing with the zombie inmates would be no problem, because once the outbreak hit, the facility would be on lockdown, which means you'd just have to grab some guns, get a key to open the food-pass for each and every cell door, and go door-to-door picking them off. The only problem is that with currently over 900 inmates, you'd probably run out of one-liners before you finished them all off.
It's basically a self-sustaining, fully defensable, heavily armed, and heavily fortified small city with plenty of room (and work) to accommodate survivors.Last edited by Kara; 01-21-2011, 04:38 PM."You are loved" - Plaidman.
