  • I can has floor?

So I moved into a trailer that is three years older then I. It looked nice and sound, a part of the floor was a bit wonky but other then that okay. Until the flooding happened and the bathroom needed to be repaired four times before a different guy was called in on the forth time and the flooding issue was fixed.

Then the wonky part of the floor sagged and Mom and I stepped over it, I was saving for new tile and was finally starting to put it done. As we pulled up the carpet we found spot after spot of water damaged floor. Under the windows and next to the door. But nothing could have prepared me for this...the carpet was pulled and the floor...crumbled.

So now I and my little ol grandma of a Mom are fixing a ever bigger hole in my floor. Pictures will follow...for now I need hot shower...the carpet padding had maggots under the door section. No wonder Mom always said my place smelled of rot when she went past that door.

Oh god that is horrible. *Offers cookie*

Now is this a travel Trailer or a mobile home? I'm just asking because one is some place you camp in and the other is your home. And your home having a A MASSIVE hole in the floor is much worse than your vacation spot.

That is so sad. I wish there was something I could do.

Yeah, the particle board they use for flooring in mobile homes will disintegrate when exposed to water. Plywood is your friend.

If you get a chance, painting a particle board floor with a good primer (Kilz works nicely) before putting down finish flooring will help keep minor spills from turning into rotten floors.

we're putting down 3/4 inch particle board but yes I'll keep the kilz in mind for when we get to that step. For now we're still pulling up rotted pieces.

Water can be nasty. Water got into my family's cabin and warped the wood in one spot so bad the middle was probably two feet higher then at the walls. Luckily we were able to fix it but its amazing what water can do.
