I miss being able to dye my hair fun colors. Always thought blonde and pink was a great combo....I did it once, but I bleached my dark brown hair first (also had blue, green, purple.....)

I agree Whiskey, I used to bleach my hair when I was younger (after puberty my hair started taking on an ashy hue instead of the platinum it used to be and I got so mad I was adamanet I'd be a platinum blonde forever) and I fried the living hell out of it.

In the past few years, I've only dyed my hair a few times, once last June 09 at a salon back to my natural color (or as close as it could be) and then two times last winter I had dark purple put into my lower layers. That was awesome but didn't last.

I will have to see when I'd be able to get out of town for the day. Not much time off nowadays, and when I do have time off, I have too much going on to get away, and not many girlfriends. That and my cousin and I are not very close.

I just thought of something. The difference (usually) between perm and semi-perm haircolor is that perm has ammonia, which causes more lift of your natural pigment. Either way, you're depositing the same types of dyes on your hair. I think fading really has to do with your hair's structure and which color you use. I know red molecules are biggest and so just don't bond as well to hair, but I don't know if that holds for pink. If you're bleached, your hair's cuticle is more open. Maybe that's why you lose the pink. Edited to add: I'm not blonde, but my cuticle is more open also, due to the curling, so I cannot hold onto most colors. Red, even ammonia-based, fades within 2 weeks. Not worth the $ for me.

psst: If your hair is curly, uber-condition it every weekend for a month before the treatment. That'll close up the cuticle and give you longer life on your colour.

I use the Ouidad Deep Treatment. It works really well.

My hair is super fine and has never held any color darker than it's natural color for very long, save for black, but that's a whole different color and tendency there. That was a bad idea.

The lady on the phone from Sally and my stylist friend said that pink holds best on blondes, we'll have to see.

Edit to add: Friend who works at a Salon has Redkin Pink Fusion, which is classified as permanent, but she guarantees her clients 8 weeks. For $40, that seems reasonable. I will stop by her salon as soon as she can squeeze me in.

              You only pay 40?

Double process at my salon is WELL over $100. And that's before tax & tip.

It'll only be the dye job. I can trim my own hair and I'm not touching the blonde on top. It gets costly when you start doing multiple colors or adding in trims or cuts.

trims are free at my salon. Platinum blonde bleaching is about 100$ every 2 months. I think I might go back to natural. The upkeep is a bitch.

It is near impossible, even if you're a natural blonde. I just gave up and let it be natural, and every once in a while give it a little lift and go slightly lighter. My roots are almost to my ears and no one even really notices, I just do it to downplay the ash and bring out more blonde.

I was a natural strawberry blonde, but something happened and my hair went ashy brunette.

I was a platinum blonde, and right after puberty it decided to be ashy ashy ashy blonde.

Why that had to happen, I'm not sure. Although my brother and dad were both platinums as children, and Dad's hair went so dark it was almost black after he was a teen, and my brother's hair is decently brown, but his sideburns are blonde and his beard is red.

My dad was the same way. My brother had the white blond hair as a baby but it's dark blond/light brown now, except where it's going gray (he's 37).

I never had blond hair. I had it colored red with caramel highlights once, which I loved, but a few months later she touched up the highlights and they came out really blonde. Took forever to grow that out! (I did like the red, but I'm too cheap/lazy to keep it up.)

I have done funky colors myself... i did red once when I was 19 (it was Special F/X hair dye, only kind i reccomend EVER using!! I used 2 bottles, one Lava Red and one Firetruck Red.) Came out coke-can red, stayed in for almost 8 months before it began to wash out, no touchups, only used a color-safe shampoo & conditioner with LUKEWARM water. Also had to wash it separately, as my hair was almost waist-length at that time and dyed EVERYTHING red...

Also, currently have blue hair. Well, sort of. I shaved pretty much all of it off and only have bangs and a bit of a shaggy grow... But its a dark blue. Also, washing with a color-safe shampoo/conditioner (ie herbal essences' 'color me happy' is what i currently use) helps keep the color.

the red hair pics of me i don't have, except in physical form, as i don't have a scanner to put them online. But the blue... the blue i have This is me and my dad, july 31st at a themed wedding of my eldest, younger half-sister. ETA: the color is light in this pic because I hadn't re-dyed it at that point, but is being done this weekend, so will be much darker when i'm done lol

also forgot to add... i buy the dye myself and go see my older sister... we've been doing this at least 10 years together now, we're old hands at dying hair lol come see me, we'll get you a good color and i'll do it myself
