Got a voicemail from my mom a few minutes ago asking me to call her as soon as possible. I called back, she answered and said hang on a minute. I'm not on the phone, listening to her. she's talking to either an EMT or an ER doctor, answering all sorts of personal questions of her own medical history, and I'm hearing the words "EKG" and "heart attack" being bandied bandied about. Fantastic.

What the hell is going on?!?!

Ok, stepdad finally got on the phone.

Mama Lupo has apparently been having chest pains for a while. (read: months!). Last night it apparently got really really bad, so today, stepdad dragged her to see a doctor.

They did and EKG and something didn't look right, so they ended up giving her nitro. The second EKG looked better, but her blood pressure was really low (96 over something), so they decided to admit her overnight. I did talk to her and she was cranky about it, insisting she's fine. She's not fine.

I wish she would stop trying to act like everything is peachy when it's not, I'm scared for her. She's under a lot of stress at work, plus all the health issues stepdad is having. I started crying and told her I'm always in fear out here when I hear her talking about how she's not feeling well because I know she'll always brush it off. Hopefully stepdad will stay on her to do whatever the doctors tell her she needs.

Now I get to go take a shower, and try and get some sleep tonight, as I have work bright and early tomorrow. What fun.

I hope she gets well soon. Be sure to ask (or ask her nurses/doctors) if her Troponins (TI) were/are positive. This would mean that it more than likely was a heart attack as elevated TI levels indicate heart muscle damage. She may not want to worry you (or herself) by trying to make light of the situation. She needs to take it all in and learn whats happening and why. However, she has to make the decision for herself to be better healthwise and to be open to advice.

I hope it goes well. Take care.

Oh no, I"m not in pain, I'm fine honey! Just cuz my leg is chewed off by a hyena and I'm bleeding like Niagra Falls, doesn't mean I'm in pain. Now shoo and go outside and play.

I hate it when they do that.

Lupo, I am thinking good thoughts today about Mama Lupo. I hope she feels better soon - and you don't get gray hairs with this.

OKay, Mommy Lupo will be okay. It's just chest pains, not full blown hurting. I'm sure she will be fine, really.

Its the caring instinct. I've done the same thing. I had full blown pneumonia and was telling people I was fine because I didn't want them to worry.

Your mom will be better in no time, she sounds like a trooper

I hope your mom gets better fast. I know how frustrating it is when a parent says they're fine... even though they're in the hospital or whatever.

We'll keep Mamma Lupo in our prayers.

I have the same problem with my parents. When they are in Texas for the winter, we call them almost every day. As I have five siblings, we each call one day a week.

Just hope they don't do this to you...
Message on answering machine: "Hi Son. It's your Dad. Called to wish you a happy birthday. By the way, your Mom is back in the hospital with chest pains."

Well, talked to stepdad a couple times today, and mama, too. They kept monitoring her overnight, and her EKG changed again. Her blood pressure dropped as well, down to 96/61

They ran all sorts of tests including injecting dye, catheters, etc, and found out there's a blockage of some kind in/around her heart. Not too clear on that, since when she called me, she was still coming off whatever they used to put her under for the most recent test.

She's being kept in for another night, and they're planning an ultrasound first thing tomorrow. That's the latest news I've got as of now. Supposed to hear more tonight after they get the official word on the test results.

This may be misguided, but if the hospital isn't in a crazy rush, I would try to relax a little. Shes under the care of trained professionals. Tell your mom I have internet cookies (or whiskey, idk how badass your mom is) for her
