I say it's the mother bond. Most mothers have that bond that they know when something is wrong and when their cub is silently calling for them. I have had it happen myself.

I am glad your son is okay. A car can be easily replaced. Your son can not be.

The TV thing is a distinct possibility. The TV in my bedroom is an old one, and there is frequently static on it when my phone rings. I do sleep with the TV on too...never thought of that.

Oh well - either way - it was a relief that I woke when he called, and that he's ok.

Thanks for all the opinions, guys. It's very interesting!

Uh. Yeah. I'm going to go with the flashing light hypothesis.
Heh, I was gonna say that, until I saw the post about wearing a sleep mask. My phone occasionally lights up because it's getting some update or something, and if I'm half asleep it'll wake me up. (I use it as an alarm so I don't turn it off - no one calls me late so if it did ring in the middle of the night I'd probably want to answer it anyway. I try to remember to turn it upside down so if it does light up I won't see it.)
