  • Scott Pilgrim. Someone had to bring it up.

I've been bombarded with posts on a few other sites regarding the Scott Pilgrim movie. The problem, of course, is that up until tonight, I didn't have a clue as to why the franchise itself was so popular to begin with, let alone make a movie out of. What made it even worse is the fact that when I played the newb and asked 'What's Scott Pilgrim?', the only answer I got was 'You gotta see/read it'.

Okay, fine. Asking around and not finding anyone who had at least one of the graphic novels, I downloaded them and read them myself. (Yell at my broke ass later...) You know what? I liked it. Not nearly as fanatically as some of the people I've talked to, but I liked it. A little cliche at points, but still good.

I was just curious about other peoples' reactions to the series on this site.

Ive only seen the movie. Havent read the manga though i did pick it up in Barnes and Nobles once and gave it a glance.

I personally thought it was fuckin fantastic! It was so ridiculous, I had to laugh. I felt like it was really aimed at the "Nintendo" generation. I totally got the humor and thought the 8 bit Universal Sign at the beginning was soo cute. The ending was kinda of a letdown...didnt go out like the epic epic of epicness should have. But I liked it and would see it again.

    My hubby liked it too.

Im no Ebert, but I gave it TWO THUMBS UPPPPPPPPP.

I liked it as well. A lot of my computer/gamer geek friends got the references.

I liked it. It was cute and funny and definitely for the Nintendo generation (or hipsters who play the NES to be ironic or whatever it is hipsters do). The only possible issue is Michael Cera. His detached loserness works for the movie, but I can't stand him in general.

It's a movie/comic for gamers made by gamers. People who are not gamers will not like the movie and will think it's lame.

I haven't seen it yet but I will next weekend when my friends are free.

Ditto this... I feel he actually did well here.

He plays practically the same role in just about every movie. Just a nerd. I think he was only good in Superbad.

If Cera ever manages to show any range at all, it'll be an instant Oscar. Happily, I don't think he will. And he's already getting too old to play that character. I expect to hear about him in either porn or rehab in the next 5 years.
