Earl will clip us....wind and much needed rain. I cannot wait!!! I'm half tempted to ditch work and head to RI (it's okay, I am a degreed meteorologist*, I am allowed to be insane)

But in seriousness, he is still a Cat 4, drifting more west then originally thought. While no landfall is expected, everyone just keep an eye out and be safe. I'm working from home tomorrow, I do not trust the CT roads.

You can see cloud cover rolling in off of the ocean. One of the beauties of living in Salem,

Wish I could take the day off to hang out by the lighthouse so I could have Earl kiss my ass.

He's a cat 3 now and weakening, they're expecting him to be a Cat 1 / Cat 2 when he gets up to your neck of the woods.

I'd call out - New Englanders aren't used to hurricanes so even with a tropical storm warning it's a good excuse.

(Here you can't use that excuse - you have to be in a hurricane warning before you can use it as an excuse).

Should be interesting to see what happens. If it just kept going on it's current path, it'd nail Jersey. They say it's going to really hook east so we'll see. Should be a good amount of rain.

            Gamecocks game tonight.
Beer Pong Tournament at my favorite bar tonight.
            Hurricane tomorrow.

I should just call out tomorrow.

I'm in the middle of NC, and from what I've seen on the local radar online, it doesn't look like we'll get any rain from Earl. (or Earl J. Hickey, as my brother is calling the storm. )

The wind is picking up a little bit though . . . it feels good out here on the deck tonight.

I want you East Coast peeps to be safe, but I REALLY don't wanna work this weekend.

Being a travel agent in an emergency call center sucks anyway, but add the holiday and a storm in the path of major airports is a recipe for some serious SC's.

                  Well, two bits of good news;

He's weakened quite a bit, now a minimal Cat 3.

He's moved further to the east (you can check Wunderground's Wundermap to verify this). The center is a bit further east than the projections (meaning he's further from land).

He is still very large, though.

My forecast says rain/low 80s tomorrow, windy/upper 70s on Saturday, then sunny and 70s/80s for the next several days.

                      Cat 2. I'm ready.

Riley's crushes (the orange cats) are outside....I want to steal them and keep them safe, but they have good humans and will be let in (I hope)

Why can't Jim Cantore come to CT?? *droooooool*

Right now the VA coast is getting whipped with rain, there and the NC coast has tropical storm force winds, looks like some may be close to hurricane strength in the outer banks.

Some of the bands will start to hit MD, DE, and NJ later this morning / today.

Edit: The northermost clouds have started to roll over southern New England.

He didn't shift west as much as I thought.....right now looks like CT won't get hit too hard.

As long as we get the much needed rain.

It looks like Halifax may get a direct hit from Earl. His winds are still close to hurricane strength (but I doubt he'll strengthen). We're less than 2 hours away from landfall.

Reports of no damage and only 1700 customers are out of power - most of which have it back now.

Have fun with the tropical storm! Shouldn't be too bad, but I don't think Canada is used to those types of things.

Our local air force base had a bunch of planes from a northern base flown in. It was really nice to be the shelter for once, being that we've probably flown our aircraft north a half dozen times in the last six years.
